Supplimental Marriage Record

Post by michaeldi »

Greetings,

I found this record in the supplimental section of a marriage register. It mentions the previous spouses as both were widows. I can understand bits and pieces. Can anyone help me understand the purpose of this record? Any help, as always, is greatly appreciated.

Michael

Hi Michael,

I just saw these. I'm not fluent in Italian but I can attempt to have a look for you when I get back from work today.

Meanwhile, you may want to have a look at this site. It helps with translations of the acts..

Hope it helps.

Hi michael, it is a bit hard to read the handwriting, however the concept is abt :
17 oct 1896
the marriage made in "extremis" for life danger of Salvatore, widower of age 39, farmer, born and resident in Palma di Montechiaro, Girgenti (Agrigento ) province, son of late Giovanni and of Giuseppa MI....(?), that in imminent life danger, it ask of to marry at Calogera Di Maria widow, of age 52, housewife, born and resident in Palma di Montechiaro, Girgenti (Agrigento ) province, daughter of late Calogero and of late Angela Corrente... etc.. document presented: the birthacts relayed in current date, and Calogera added the explanation, that if she, also, made a previous marriage with Giuseppe Cordallo, the husband is died the 28 feb 1880 as result from death registry, and death act relayed in current date, and also by oath of witnesses: Calogero Vitale age 52 sulphur miner, Antonio Morgante age 50 farmer, ... .... age 52 farmer and Giovanni Cordallo age 42 farmer, that, they are especially verified that it are no obstacle of relationship or similar between the spouses......

Hi Suanj,

This is really interesting! What situation would a person use imminent danger as a reason to marry? Just curious.

Thanks
