Italians in small towns

I live in a small town of about 4500.The biggest group here is Italian and

almost all come from the area of Pofi -Castro dei Volsci.Is this a very common thing to have groups from a certain area of Italy move to
another Country and Town together?

I have found in my research that when my relatives immigrated, they would always go to the towns/cities of other family members. Back then, immigrants had to be "sponsored" and have an address before they could sail.

My early research showed this to be true, however, over the years my husband's families moved across from the east coast to the west coast. My family, in most instances, arrived in Ellis Island then traveled to San Francisco.

I also believe this to be true. My family and others from the town of Casino, now Castelsilano, moved to the small towns of Weed and McCloud California. These two small town were lumber towns located in the northern part of California.

If you check out the link on my page about Celenza, there was a large population of Celezani that moved to Waterbury, CT (which is a medium sized city). Waterbury also has a high concentration of people from Pontelandolfo and Cercamaggiore. Many of the Celenzani actually lived on the same block in Waterbury.
