Looking for De Leonardis family
Hi, I'm researching my husband's family and need some help. I'm in SC but all his family is in NY so hard for me to get certain info. My husband's grandfather was Giovanni (also went by John) De Leonardis. He came to NY in 1900 from San Marco Dei Cavoti, Italy when he was about 9 years old. John's parents were Lorenzo De Leonardis and Concetta Colarusso. He had 2 brothers, Goffredo & Diodero, and a sister, Mathilda. I'm trying to find more info on Lorenzo and Concetta De Leonardis but keep running into a brick wall. Any help on this would be much appreciated!

Hi and Welcome to the Forum!
Were you interested in help with US or Italy records, or both?
Did Lorenzo and Concetta De Leonardis come to the US?
Do you have all of Giovanni’s records in the US?
Thanks! Valarie
For reference, is this Giovanni’s WWI Card?

Thank you Valerie. That is John's WWI card. I'm interested in both US and Italy information. I have some of John's stuff but still trying to get more. Trying to find more on his parents caused it seem like they just don't exist for me right now. I've look on census for them and immigration but just cannot find anything so looking for help on that. Also forgot to mention that John's wife was Filomena D'Onofrio if that help. Thanks again!

Hi Valerie and thank you! That is John's WWI card. I'm interested in both US and Italy records. I have some records on John but still searching for more. I'm trying to find his parents because they just don't seem to exist for me right now cause I've look for them on immigration records and census in NY. So was hoping maybe someone could help me out on finding them in Italy before they came to US. I have tried using either De Leonardis or DeLeonardis as their names but still no luck. Also forgot to mention that John's wife was Filomena D'Onofrio if that help any. Thanks again! Myra

Re: Looking for De Leonardis family
I have tried some of those resources...was actually using them earlier today. But thank you for the NYC archives records...that will help on ordering records if I need to. Thank you for the WWII card on John. I forgot to mention that his wife's nickname was Flora so that reminded me seeing that card. Look like I posted twice before because I thought it didn't go through the first time so oops.

Re: Looking for De Leonardis family
Thank you Valerie! I'm so excited about their wedding date! I've been looking for that and just wrote a letter to my mother-in-law asking for that date. I'll be saving that marriage index site for future use.
Biff, thank you for the immigration post. I've been looking for the wrong date. I assumed he came in 1900 because on the 1930 census...it look like 1900 but guess I read it wrong...thank again!

Hmm...no that name is not familiar but I was looking at John's mother's name. Her name was Concetta Colarusso...wondering if the spelling change?

Re: Looking for De Leonardis family
Hello Valarie !
I'm seeing Gennaro something. Need some more time to decipher.
I stand corrected Generoso Orsillo it is
Myra,
If he first came to the US in 1909 by himself, his parents may have remained in Italy, and that's the reason you can't locate any US records for them.

Re: Looking for De Leonardis family
Biff, I'm beginning to realized that. My husband does not know a lot about his family history. His family never told him much about their history so I'm trying to put the pieces together for him. His father is dead and his mother only know so much on that side so thank again for all this help. I'm so excited!
