ORLANDO / CIARAMITARO (Terrasini, province Palermo, Sicily)

Post by holly.orlando »

My grandparents were born and raised in Terrasini. They took a vessel to Canada in, roughly, 1952. Most of their siblings stayed behind, in Sicily, and those overseas drifted away from the ones in the States. Here is the information about my relatives -

Grandmother: Flavia Ciaramitaro
Great-Grandmother: Rosalia
Great-Grandfather: Micurio Ciaramitaro

Grandfather: Salvatore Orlando
Great-Grandmother: Rosalia (DiMaggio)
Great-Grandfather: Andrea Orlando

My great-grandfather, Andrea Orlando, served as mayor of Terrasini at some point between 1910-1930. I am told there are many, many Orlandos and Ciaramitaros left in Sicily, with many immigrated to the USA/Canada. I am hoping to reconnect with some and see if we're famiglia.

You are lucky that your search is a relatively recent one and there are still people alive who will know the family history. Here is a link to the Italian white pages to help you search.

I don't know if this will help you find living relatives but you might like to have the info anyway.

Andrea Orlando (son of Filippo Orlando and Francesca Di Maggio) married Rosalia Di Maggio (daughter of Giuseppe Di Maggio and Girolama Valenti) in Terrasini on 8-Jan-1905.

Filippo Orlando (son of Giuseppe Orlando and Vita Leto) married Francesca Di Maggio (daughter of Damiano Di Maggio and Girolama Bommarito) in Terrasini on 29-Aug-1877.

Filippo and Francesca had at least 2 other children. Giuseppe baptized 6-Jan-1891, and Vita baptized 22-Nov-1887.

____________________________________________________________

If Micurio Ciaramitaro's wife was Rosalia Tocco, they married in Terrasini on 31-Oct-1869 and had a child Gaetano baptized on 8-Nov-1887.

Micuriio - son of Salvatore Ciaramitaro and Vincenza Moceri, Rosalia - daughter of Vito Tocco and Rosalia Aiello.

hope this helps.

Here is some additional information that you may find helpful. My paternal grandmother was a Ciaramitaro:

Fred F.P. Mormino was born in Terrasini, Italy in 1920. His parents were Crocifissa (Ciaramitaro) and Nichiano (also know as Ignacious) Mormino. Crocifissa was born November 1, 1894 and died September 13, 1921. She came to America with her father Filippo Ciaramitaro.

Nichiano (Americanized his name to Fred). He was born October 8, 1881 and died July 5, 1919. He is buried in Detroit, Michigan but he also lived in Memphis, Tennessee for some time.

Nichiano had two brothers Antony and Leonard. He had two sisters, but we only know the name of one, Josephine. Nichiano's parents were Ciara (Culura) and Paolo Mormino.
