Technical Question about Surname Documentation

Post by johnlabarbera »

Through research I have discovered that my great grandparent was born in Sicily with one name (Ugo) but sometime when in America it was changed to Accardo for no known reason.

So when I do my documentation be it on Ancestry.com or other, how do I show or report this? Ugo/Accardo ?

I know it is not unusual for names to be mispelled and carried forward differently, in fact my Dattalo side (USA spelling) is really Dattolo in Sicily. Same question but less of a contrast between spellings than above.

In ancestry you can list alternate names. You enter them when you edit the profile of the person you have entered under options to the side.

The same in other genealogy software. There is a method to enter alternative/AKA names.
