Looking for Piccioli family info

Post by Piccioli »

My father, Stephen Piccioli, was born in Serravalle di Carda in 1899. He came to the States with his mother, Francesca Pierini Piccioli, in 1909. I have the info from Ellis Island. My grandfather, Fortunato Piccioli, arrived earlier but I am not sure how he got to this country. I would love to know how I could find my father's birth certificate and his naturalization papers.
If anyone knows anything about Serravalle di Carda or the Piccioli family I would appreciate the information. I have checked out the Serravalle website and seen the pictures of the town. It looks very beautiful.

I woke up this morning to find all the information vj and Biff83 had found about my family. After a good cry, (tears of joy), I just had to write and thank you. I appreciate what you have done to help me. Finding about my family means so much to me.

From the Scranton Times Tribune, 14 March 2006

"Ernest A. Piccioli, 88, Peckville, died Sunday (March 12) at Lackawanna County Health Care Center, after a brief illness. His wife of 55 years is Helen Susnosky Piccioli.

A lifelong resident of Peckville, he was the son of the late Fortunato and Francesca Pierini Piccioli and attended Blakely public schools. He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Peckville, and its Holy Name Society; and he served as a church usher and ticket chairman for the annual parish picnic committee. He was also a member of the Blakely Ambulance Association.

Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Operating Engineers Local 542 and served as treasurer for the retirees of Operating Engineers.

He was a loving husband, uncle and godfather, who enjoyed many trips to Atlantic City and playing cards with all his friends at the community center. He loved his dogs, Maxie and Taylor; and was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener. He was a collector of antique miniature cars and also collected stuffed animals. His wit and friendly personality will be missed by all who loved him.

The family wishes to thank the entire staff at Lackawanna County Health Care Center and also the staff and therapists at Mid-Valley Hospital for their kind and compassionate care.

Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, and godchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Pierina Radicchi and Mary Petrini Ciabocchi; and four brothers, Steve Piccioli, Andrew Piccioli, Nicholas Piccioli and Harry Piccioli.

The funeral will be Thursday at 8:45 a.m. from the Arthur A. Albini Funeral Home, 1003 Church St., Jessup, with Mass at 9:30 a.m. in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Peckville. Interment, St. Mary’s Cemetery, Montdale.

Friends may call Wednesday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart of Jesus Church Building Fund. 1101 Willow St., Peckville, 18452; or to the donor’s favorite charity."

Blakely, Lackawanna, Pennsylvania
Thomas Radicshi 24
Prenna Radicshi 22

Interesting to note that on the naturalization papers for Tommaso on footnote, one of the witnesses was his father in law Fortunato.

Hey Biff :D !
Really great find on the 1910 census!
You're right about Fortunato being a witness -
there were pages to scroll through on footnote
where he was a witness! I never thought to check
to see if anyone was related.

Thanks, Valarie!

Another bit of information on Tommaso Radicchi's naturalization papers, the other witness, Albert Galuardi, was a neighbor; he's on the next page in the 1930 census.

I am on "Cloud 9". Thanks you for all the wonderful information. I had to smile about the house being the nicest on the block. Would you mind telling me what is was valued at and the address. The Piccioli family owned 5 houses on the block. My parents and I lived at 1017 Myers Avenue. I know it can't be that one. My grandparents house at 1031 Myers Ave. was the largest home but they had several people living there. It is amazing how they messed up the spelling on the names. People still do that today. Thank you again. Anna Maria
