Aquilla, Mazza from Calabria

Post by thtrecostume »

I am looking for information on my grandpatrents and possible other relatives. Johanna Aquilla (Pelecore), married to Carmen Aquilla, came to the US in 1902 with daughters Retina (Rita), Marietta (Mary), and Florence, supposedly on a ship named Luguiria. Johanna was coming to help her son, possibly Carmen or John Aquilla, who was already in the US. Carmen (father) died in Cosenza, Italy, and Johanna stayed in the US with the children. Mary married Salvator Curto and had a daughter, Mary. Florence married a man named Polito, and had two sons, Dominick and John. Rita married Jerome Cordo, and later Joseph Mazza. Rita and Joseph are my grandparents, and I am the youngest of many cousins, Cordo and Mazza, since Rita had eight children. Joseph Mazza had come to the US in 1907, supposedly from Catanzaro. Carmen Aquilla was supposedly a court officer in Cosenza. That is all we know, and I cannot find any more information on Johanna, Florence Polito, Mary Curto, or their brother. Nor can I find any information of Jospeh Mazza. I am looking for possible ship names, ports of entry, port of departure, any possible relatives or clues in Cosenza or Catanzaro, since my 78 year old mother and I are planning a trip there to see the place of our origins. Any help or guidance is greatly appreciated. I have searched through all the ancestry.com records, as well as Ellis Island. Thank you-- RGS

Thanks, Valarie.

Town of last residence on your 1910 manifest find looks like Rose in Cosenza.

Valarie

edit: added
