italian Millitary Records for LORENZO ROMANO

Post by Romano1970 »

Hello. me again........LOL

I have a new search I am stuck on.

I was informed on by one of my relatives that my grandfather Lorenzo Romano was in the Italian Millitary between the years of 1915 and 1918.

He fought in Tripoli and was released from the Millitary. Once he returned home he was notified that the Italian Millitary was going to RE Draft him. Well I dont think he liked that Idea and so he decided to come to America  .

As stated above his name was Lorenzo ROMANO ( my aunt said he always used his last as his first when he was in Italy) so it would have been ROMANO Lorenzo.
He was born in PIAZZA ARMERINA in 1889 at that time it was in the province of Caltanissetta, now Enna.

BIFF had found a manifest coming into boston in 1913 the SS Palermo, but my aunt said he did not come to america until roughly 1918 through 1919 and she said she is almost positive he came through NY.

If it matters , his fathers name was Fillipo Romano.

Thanks in advance for the help!!! :D

Michael,

I haven't had a lot of experience with military records but I believe the doucments you should request are Lorenzo's lista di leva (draft card) and his Foglio Matricolare (service record) which will detail his military service. I'm not sure whether you should write to the Archivio di Stato in Caltanissetta or Enna but believe it should be to Caltanissetta since that was the province where his hometown was located at the time. I think this is the correct address:

Archivio di Stato
Provincia di Caltanissetta
Via Liberta 2
93100 Caltanissetta (CL)
ITALY

I am not sure how you should word your request but would include his name, birthdate and birthtown. I'm sure if you start a thread in the translation section a number of folks will help.

Best,
Biff
