LEONARDINI Family Needs Help

Hi,

I can't find any info. on the Leonardini Family from San Pietro Vara, Lugurie, Italy.

I'm looking for the ancestors of Luigi Leonardini (b. abt 1880 d. abt. 1918 in Oakland, CA) and his wife Anna Armanino (b. abt 1885). They were married abt. 1907.

They had three children, Milly, Alma and Alfonso all born in Oakland, California.

I'm having a hard time finding Luigi's parents and siblings, would anyone have this information or know where to look? I've looked on Ancestry and Rootsweb and couldn't find anything. I was told that Luigi may have had about 12 siblings.

The good news is that San Pietro Vara is a "frazione" (neighborhood or suburb absorbed by VARESE LIGURE Posatle 19028, La Spezia Province)

The bad news is that the civil records for either the frazione or the comune of Varese Ligure are not onmicrofilm at your nearest Mormon church family history library.

You might wish to go to www.comuni.it and for Varese Ligure and ask them what civil records are available intheir Uffico di Stato Civile and whether there nay be duplicate records in La Spezia. You might also wish to write to The La Spezia archivi di Stato, Military records for your grandfathers conscription records (REGISTRO DI LEVA) asking the the Uffico di Stato for that address in la Spezia as well.

My grandfather, Peter William Leonardini was one of three sons who lived in the neighboring town to Pietro di Vara in the family mill. He was born in 1877 and died outside of Stockton, CA in 1959. He emigrated at the turn of the century and came directly to San Francisco to work the boat from San Francisco to Stockton/Sacramento. In the 20's he sent for my grandmother.

I don't know if he had cousins in the neighboring town and I'm not familiar with a Luigi Leonardini. The bishop in Varese, though, could help you. They have the records right there in the office. You have to pass through Pietro Di Vara to get to Varese Ligure (based on the river Vara that runs through both of them)

I haven't heard of my grandfather having cousins with large families, but my grandmother's family (also from a neighboring hill town, named Cesena) had three sisters that married three Armanino brothers (lore has it that there was a fourth but she nixed it). Some of their children emigrated as well (including the Armanino son who sells the pesto in local stores).

My great grandfather was Gianbattista Leonardini, brother to Pietro, and Luigi. They are buried at St Mary's Cemetery in Oakland. My dad's cousin, Marilyn, is still living and knows the children of Pietro and more of the Leonardini family. This is in response to KLittleford. I am a descendent of Jeanbattista Leonardini--brother of Luigi, Pietro, Giovanni, Guiseppe, et al--from Oakland. I would love to contact him/her. We still have family that is connected. My cousin's mother was Anna and her father--I believe was Giovanni.

There is another Gianbattista that settled in Stockton.
