Hints on finding a local translator
Hints on finding a local translator
Hello, We will be visiting Accadia, a small farming town, in Foggia in one month. Do you have any suggestions as to where we might find a person who will spend a couple hours with us when we visit my ancestors roots? Maybe a church or school or local newspaper? What would be a fair price for their services if they live in Accadia? Does Foggia or Naples have a US Embassy or American Services of any type? If so would they have some suggestions? Thanks.

Hello, Naples has a US Embassy, maybe you can contact it to see if they have any translator for you

Thanks so much. I will definitely check that out.

Maybe you should check out if the local school in Accadia or the next biggest town has an English teacher who wants to moonlight. We went to a small village in Foggia without a command of the language, but we got quite far with beginner's Italian, a dictionary, and a lot of good will.

The Embassy is in Rome, in Naples there is a Consulate.ricbru wrote:Hello, Naples has a US Embassy, maybe you can contact it to see if they have any translator for you

Go to www.nonsolocap.it and type in Accadia in the top and when the screen comes up, click Accadia and the town web page comes up with Municipal data, Mayor and E and Fax mail addresses.
Were I you I would send an e-mail, call the Mayor's office and ask for someone his office may suggest as a translator. Perhaps the local school (english is obligatory in schools inItaly) english language teacher may be able to fill your needs. =Peter=

Good suggestion. I have met many English teachers who are anxious to practice their English conversation skills.
