First, I'd like to say "Thank You!" to suanj for providing the wording for the letter to send to the commune of Capannori requesting my great grandparents records! I am happy to report that I received the birth record for my great grandmother and the marriage records of my great grandparents! I also received the following note regarding my great grandfather's records:
"L'atto di NASCITA della persona in oggetto della richiesta non e' in nostro possesso poiche l'Archivio di Stato Civile ha inizio nell' Anno 1866. Suggerisce di rivolgersi all'arcdhivio della Parrochia dove il predetto e'stato battezzato oppure all Curia Arcivescovile di Lucca."
which, if I understand correctly, is telling me the commune records begin in 1866, so they don't have the birth record for GGF (born 1864), and they suggest trying the Parish archives of the Archdiocese of Lucca????
Included was an email address. I'd like to email back a note of thanks to them, and would greatly appreciate any help with the wording, in Italian, of an appropriate thanks.
Thank you! And how to say "Thank You!"?

Re: Thank you! And how to say "Thank You!"?
Much thanks again, suanj! I am in your debt! m(_ _)m
My GGF, Angelo Sodini, was born (I think) April 15th, 1864, in the town of San Gennaro, a 'frazione' of Capannori, Lucca province.
"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bishop_of_Lucca" seems to imply that San Gennaro is one of the 362 Parishes that make up the Archdiocese of Lucca. I may be reading it incorrectly...
Also, found this:
http://www.diocesilucca.it/
and this:
http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pieve_di_San_Gennaro
Would the Archdiocese of Lucca hold all the Baptismal Records for all of its parishes, or do the individual parishes keep them?
Thank you!

Hi 3rd3rd,3rd3rd wrote:This looks like this could be the place for me to start!:

from the website I found not the church records in the Archive, however I believe, that the better thing, for you, is to see the microfilms of Capannori by Mormons; because until 1865 all civil records of all towns in Toscana region are microfimed; also of Capannori;
Estratti dei registri dello stato civile, 1745-1865 Toscana (Italia : Regione). Ufficio dello stato civile
http://www.familysearch.org/eng/library ... umns=*,0,0
I believe that the birth of your ancestor is in this microfilm:
Nati Maschi A-Z ( men born in 1864- surname's initials from A to Z) 1864 FHL INTL Film
1119564
because write in the Arcidiocesi could be no helpful... because rarely they replyng, instead by microfilms you can back in your genealogic tree until 1745 year!
All best, suanj

Re: Thank you! And how to say "Thank You!"?
Thank you suanj! I will find the nearest FHL library and order the microfilm for viewing. I hope you don't mind another question... Where are the original records, that make up this microfilm, kept? In the various churches? In Rome?
I guess what I'm asking is, once I find the record in the FHL microfilm, can I send to Italy to get a certified copy?
Thanks much again!
