emigrated to Ireland

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Post by jennyc »

My GGG Grandfather was born in Favale in Genoa in 1843 Nicholas Cereghino , I know he went to Ireland and married, had children and moved to England.
Where can i find when he left Italy? :?:

Hi,

Here is a link to the comune of Favale di Malvaro. Do you think this is the correct place of birth?

Cereghino is one of the 5 most common surnames in Favale di Malvaro.

Nicholas (Nicola) Cereghino was born in 1845 in Genova (most likely Favale di malvaro) as per 1881 census. If this record does not appear in that comune then maybe Genova city is the actual place of birth....plan B as it were. =Peter=

Hi Jenni,

I'm pretty sure that your ancestor was form the Favale di Malvaro area, in Liguria.... there are many sites about a branch of the Cereghino's because they were Ballad singers and for first some of them brought the "valdese" religion in those areas...

However maybe this site can help you find something more:

http://favaleconnection.com/index.php

you can find also the list of the registries in the local parish church:

http://favaleconnection.com/research_group.php

http://www.appennino4p.it/cereghino.htm

Hope this helps!
