Capaldi & di Salvi in Chicago 1908 to 1950

Post by stuartcapaldi »

I am searching for the descendants of my grandfather's sisters who both emigrated to USA between 1907 to 1914.

My grandfather was Achille Capaldi born in Munich, Germany 1878 whilst his parents, Sante Capaldi and Angela Maria Fusco from San Giuseppe, Picinisco and Valle grande, Villa Latina, were working in Germany. A common pattern of working outside the community.

His sisters details are as follows

Achille's sisters, Maria and Filomena

Assunta Maria Capaldi born 1882 in Valle Grande, Villa Latina.

Sante Capaldi her father is noted on birth record as working away from the Commune.

She emigrated to USA circa 1908

Living at Racine Avenue, Chicago in 1940s to early 50s

Maria married Giuseppe Di Salvi or Salve or Salvocirca 1902

Son Emilio Di Salvi born circa 1907

1920 USA Census

Living at 78 Harrison Street, Chicago District 914, Cook, Illinois

Occupation - Shoemaker - rented shop

1930 USA Census

Living at 175 Ashland Boulevard, Chicago

Names anglicised to Joseph, Mary & Emile Salvi

Niece, Angelina Capaldi also living in the house, occupation - Postal telegraph worker.

Filomena Capaldi no details of birth, marriage etc.

Anecdotal evidence from my aunt who corresponded with Angelina regularly in the 40s

Assumed she married a Capaldi as all her chidren had Capaldi as their surname.

Children - Angelina, Carmelia, Leondra & Emanuelle

emigrated to USA Chicago circa 1913.

Any information on the descendants of Achille's sisters would be very hepful

Thanks :D

Ancestry list the following surnames in their marriage database, which is really a repeat of the info provided by the databases above:

Angeline M. Capaldi 4 Jun 1945 William J. Morris Cook County, IL

Charlotte L. Capaldi 13 Jul 1949 Amadio Del Prete Cook County, IL

Sylvia Capaldi 13 Jan 1945 Frank J. Novarro Cook County, IL

Virginia Capaldi 5 Jun 1940 Domenick DE Vincenzo Cook County, IL

We can try to locate their families thru obitauries.

Interesting in that SS number issued in state of Illinois, but birthdate is off
two years from census:

Social Security Death Index

Born: 1 Apr 1906
Died: Jul 1973
State (Year) SSN issued: Illinois (Before 1951 )

Perhaps an error with the SSDI, California list different year:

Birth Date: 1 Apr 1907

Wife Nancy:

thanks these details seem extremely helpful.

The di salve confirms from my own search the 2 year discrepancy.

How do I get some more info from this information especially the details of the parents of the two sisters?

You have definitely put me on the right track excellent

thanks very much
