a little off subject...

Post by brianapat »

I have been looking at other posts and reading that there were alot of immigrants from Italy to Brazil. I am currently looking for my father in Brazil. His name is Paulo Cezar de Oliveira, and he is about 57. I have info on his parents and siblings. I have been looking for years off and on but I don't speak Portuguese anymore, so it is hard.

My mother was an exchange student, met my father and went back a year later to get married. The marriage only lasted a few more years.

Any info on how I can further my search would be appreciated.

Thanks, Briana

Briana have you looked into the various telephpone directories for all of brazil? Have you looked for him in the REGISTRO CIVIL for Brazil? Go to www.arquivonacional.gov.br and look up the civil registry department since you must know the last place he lived with your mother. Did you try locating his parents?? I mean you do not say what you have done and why reinvent the wheel? Peter

Hello Peter,

I didn't even know what the phone directory was called in Brazil. I used the international telephone translators, but his name is like looking for John Smith up here. Basically all I have done was make phone calls, and Googled. I found an old post on this site about the Google translator, and tried that all day.

I do know that his parents are deceased, but I tried looking for his brother also.

He has a few family residences. I will use the link you gave and see what I come up with.
Thanks, Briana

I tried infobel-holy crow. I now have 18 pages of Paulo de Oliveiras. I couldn't navigate arquivonacional site. I will try again tho. How can I narrow down these addresses & phone #'s.

Peter, I can't thank you enough. I've never gotten this far.

Have you found out anything on your father?
I'm from Brazil and I might try and help you with the directories in Portuguese.
