Di Eleuterio/Salvitti

Post by ladanna »

My mother is turning 90 this week and I am working hard on her genealogy,
this will be her gift from me. I am looking for any records of a Di Eleuterio family in Abuzzo. I would like to find out how her father entered the US and what city in IT he was from.
I believe the Teramo district. Her fathers name was Emidio Di Eleuterio (btd. 1893-4), he immigrated to Philadelphia in 1914, not sure which port, and he was a tailor. His name in the USA has been miss spelled many times, dielewterio, leantario, litterio, luterio, even my mothers birth certificate is wrong.

Emidio birth city has been listed as Ilii and Naples or perhaps Scapriano, but he always said he was Abruzzo, that I'm sure of. His fathers name was Pietro
(rug weaver) and his Mothers name was Maria. He had a brother Nick.

I would appreciate you expertise in this matter, Thank you! javascript:emoticon('post',%20'message',%20'')

I looked at the site for Colledara http://www.surnamesinitaly.com/regions/ ... ledara.htm and there are no surnames listed for dieleuterio. Makes me wonder.

I'll search some more.

mmhhh... I read on several sites that the Comune of Colledara exist from 1909... before that the area was under the Comune of Castiglione della Valle, then your grandfather's birth act has to be registered in the Castiglione della Valle comune...

You're lucky, becuase the Mormons filmed the civil registration for Castiglione:

Title Registri dello stato civile, 1809-1910
Authors Castiglione della Valle (Teramo). Ufficio dello stato civile (Main Author)

for your search it can be helpful to check this microfilm:

Morti, cittadinanza 1888 -- Nati, matrimoni, notificazioni, morti, cittadinanza 1889-1893 -- Nati 1894 -- Nati, matrimoni, cittadinanza 1895

It can be possible because also from this site:
http://italia.indettaglio.it/eng/cognomi/cognomi.html

it seems that the Di Eleuterio last name is not so common...

In the left hand column is displayed the estimated number of individuals having the given surname.
The numbers are shown with a two-decimal precision, meaning that a number of 106.10 estimates there are at least 106 people in the town with that name, while the number 75.78 means there are likely 76 people in the town with that name.

34.08 Teramo Teramo
8.70 Civitella del Tronto Teramo
5.62 Giulianova Teramo
2.97 Basciano Teramo

Di Eleuterio is not listed in the Italian surname dicitonary either with or without the Di prefix. The surname is either local in origin or imported from abroad and italianized. =Peter=

Thank you Peter! I thought that...

However on the site Ancestry.com I found also the World War II military enlistment for Emidio and it lists Ilii as place of birth...
Ladanna can be sure of the place of origin... :)

Just in case you don't have this document:

U.S. World War II Draft Registration Cards, 1942
about Emidio Dieleuterio
Name: Emidio Dieleuterio
Birth Date: 2 Nov 1893
RESIDENCE: Mer, New Jersey
Birth: Ilii, Italy
Race: White
Roll: WWII_2275863

Dear ladanna,
I have been trying to research my genealogy as well. I am researching a Giovanni DiEleuterio from Teramo who came to the US with Concetta Rapuano. Their son, Michael DiEleuterio, was my grandfather. I'm wondering if there is any relation?

Good morning,
I also am looking for information regarding the last name Di Eleuterio.
My grandfather, Luigi Di Eleuterio, came from Pettorano sul Gizio. He was born in 1910 and came through Ellis Island in 1912. His father, Domenico Di Eleuterio (1881) was married to Maria D'Amico (1889). I have no information on Maria. Domenico also had a brother, Liberato (1874). Domenik and Libertao's parents were Salvatore Di Eleuterio (1845)and Rose. I am on ancestry.com and have been searching everywhere. I have gone to Ellis Island twice to obtain information from the ship manifests.
I am very interested in the lineage for Di Eleuterio….
What towns were Liberato and Domenik born in?
Is there any information on Maria D'Amico from Pettorano sul Gizio?
Is there and information on Salvatore and Rose De ELeuterio? I have no idea what towns they were from.
Any leads or information would be greatly appreciated.
Jen from Chicago
