Ippellettiere/Bellettiere

Post by JoeC »

Hi -

I'm trying to find information for my wife's great-grandparents. They immigrated from Italy sometime before Sept. 1905. I have a birth certificate for their son (Bennardo, my wife's grandfather), which shows they were in New York for his birth in Sept. 1905, their birthplace was Italy, and that the great-grandfather, Giuseppe, was 35 and great grandmother, Caterina (maiden name Pomiglia), was 30. The surname on the birth certificate is Ippellettiere, but the family name today is Bellettiere. I have not been able to find anything from Ellis Island for either of them. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks -
Joe

Dear Joe the first thing youi have to do is search out the correct spelling of the surname as it is in Italy and should be onthe birth certificate.

The correct name inthe Italian surname dictionary is IMPELLITTERI and one other odd-ball spelling which is most likely a variant of the original variant stated above is Impellittieri located in twio towns in northeastern Piemonte region.

The spelling IMPELLITTERI is found in 20 cities, towns and villages thru out Italy and most likely will be a way for you to locate the town of origin in Italy for the family. Go to www.gens.labo.net/en/cognomi for the website and put in the surnames in the upper left side and click for the distribution of the name. =Peter=

It's a small world. The person you mention, Bernardo, is the younger brother of my grandfather, Peter. You can see them both on the 1910 census. Benton is 4 and Pete is 13. I am just starting to do research on my family tree and this site helped so much! I now have back to my great - great grandfather and mother. THANK YOU! :D
