Translation please!

Post by brru25 »

I got an email from an official from Mazzarra Sant'Andrea, Sicily and it's in Italian. Some of the words I can't recognize and I don't want to guess. here's the message:

Carissimo e distinto Signore,

Cordialità e a presto.

se vuole puoi visitare il mio sito web www.mazzarra.it
dove troverà fotografie circa il nostro paese dei vivai e potrà vedere la chiesa sia dall'esterno che dall'interno, inoltre vi sono delle foto del paese e non solo.

No need to go elsewhere for a translation like this Brru25,
Here's what your friend says:

Translation

Dear and distinguished Sir,

Above all, I reply with infinite pleasure in-as-much as your command of the Italian language is total and that is to say you write perfectly in the Italian language (can I ask if you were born in Sicily? Have you ever been to Mazzarrà Sant'Andrea - Messina - Sicily? What di your ancestors do? Were they breeders(animal or plant)? What do you do? Regarding the information about your ancestors I can assure you that I will do all that I possibly can to give as much information as possible. N.B. I thought to go to our Chiesa di Mazzarrà Sant'Andrea where there is a register of the baptisms that goes back to 1766 and there should also be some registers of the dead and of marriages, then perhaps I could give you more information. To conclude if I should find any information I will send you by post the baptism, marriage and death certificates of your dear ancestors.

Cordial wishes and here's to soon

If you would like to visit my web site www.mazzarra.it where you will find photographs about our town and the breeding (vivai) and you cand see the church both from the outside and internally, in addition there are photos of the town too.

Hi Peter,
I don't know if you realise, but on that site the 'free' translation is an electronic one, and it came up with a very poor one. Their 'Human Translation' just for that post was at a cost of $40!!!

It seems such a shame to point people towards electronic translators or towards services that are (to my mind) rather expensive. Wow - if I could earn $40 for a translation that short and that simple, then I'd be in clover - but I do such work free on forums such as this, and even my private work comes in much lower than that!

Dear Elba I am talking about the free portion which the website offers for a few sentences...Not the paying section... I am from NYC and we either get it for nothing or we pay less for everything else..... Remember this city was founded by Immigrants and raised all of their children in public schools run by Immigrant socialists who were communists before communists came into existence!!!!! Luv you =Peter=

I would not recommend any electronic translation!!!
This is the automatic translation from http://www.freetranslation.com. The "very poor" definition given by Elba seems to be an euphemism...

Expensive and different Mister,

Above all, I answer Them with infinite liking as its dominion of the Italian tongue is total and that is to say You writes perfectly in Italian tongue (I am able ask Them if was born in Sicily? ever is come here to Mazzarrà Sant' Andrea - Messina - Sicily? the its ancestors of thing occupied themselves? were vivaisti? she of thing is occupied?). For how much it the information about Its ancestors I ensure Them that all farò the possible one to give the greater information. N. B. It thought to bring myself in our Church of Mazzarrà Sant' Andrea where is yourselves a register of the baptisms that goes back to 1766 and would have to be yourselves too of the registers of the dead and of the marriages, them perhaps I will be able to give them of the greater information. in conclusion if should find some information I will send off them for mail the certificates of baptism, marriage and of death of the.

Cordiality and to soon.

If it wants you can visit my website www.mazzarra.it where will find photography about our country of the nurseries and will be able to see the church is from the outside one that from the inside, besides I am yourselves some photograph of the
country and not only.

Dear Peter I did understand that you were advising the original poster to 'go for' the free translation.

The problem was that he had said quite clearly ".... Some of the words I can't recognize and I don't want to guess. here's the message:". So it was very clear that a 'free electronic translation' wasn't going to help him. But you intimated that if wanted a VERBATIM translation then he could get it there. Yes, indeed he could have done, but it would have cost him 40 bucks!

And Livio - my comment about the translation being 'very poor' was because what I actually DID think about it would have been unprintable and would probably have got me banned from IG

:) Thanks Peter...
BTW did you see the web site he posted? It was the towns official website and is really nice.

So many comunes are creating some wonderful websites nowadays, unlike the old ones - some even have 'blogs' on them. Now that's a nice way to perhaps get some information too - even if you post in English I imagine!
:)
