Please be more specific.

1st names? Birth year(s)? Did they come to the US? When? Where did they settle?

What information do you already have on them?

What records have you alreay obtained for them?

What are your research goals?

We are here to help, but need more information to hopefully help you to trace your family.

Giuseppe Conigliaro married to Giovanina. They lived in Carini-Palermo. I believe it was the mid-late 1800's. They had 2 children (Francesco and Felipo)

Angelo Cucci married Maria Mannino. They lived in Carini-Palermo. I believe it was the mid-late 1800's. They had 7 children (Giuseppa, Vincent, Angelo, Pasquale, Salvatore, Rosaria, Maria)

Giuseppe Taormina married Angela Carollo. They lived in Carini-Palermo. I believe it was the mid-late 1800's. They had 2 children (Olympia and Gaetano)

Vito Russo married to Josephine. They lived in Sciacca, Sicily. I believe it was the mid-late 1800's. They had 2 children (Vito and Vita) The son Vito eventually came to the US in the early 1900's.

Louis Modica married to Pauline Farzola. They too lived in Sicily, but am not too sure where. They had 10 children (Antonia, Natale, Charles, Joseph, Santo, Onofrio, Ralph, Steven, Martha and Gussie)

I am definitely interested. After you gave me the info, I started looking online to find out about Greek/Arberesh ancestry. I've only gotten as far as the 1800's, but I hope to get further to see where are paths possibly cross.

You and I both descend from Matteo Norcia born about 1580 married 1610 Mattea at Plane Grecorum - or Greek Plain (Now Piana degli Albenisi Provincia di Palermo). Matteo came from Himarë, Albania, and was of Greek descent being part of the Arbëreshë community. here is a bit more on it:
----
Piana degli Albanesi is an Italian comune in the Province of Palermo, Sicily. It has 6,227 inhabitants as of 2001.

The town is known for being principally an Arbëreshë community, and is called Hora e Arbëreshëvet in the resident's own dialect of Albanian. The town was founded by refugees from Himarë, Albania between the 16th to 18th centuries. The town is famous for the Klisha e Shën Mitrit (church of St. Demiter) and the Klisha e Shën Gjergjit (Church of St. George), which have Byzantine Catholic rites, unique to Arberesh villages. It also has a Latin Rite church which dates to 1514.

Piana degli Albanesi is also officially bilingual, as the official town documents are written in both Albanian and Italian and its citizens are still today proficient in both languages.

---

Your line is as follows:

GENERATION

1. MATTEO NORCIA born about 1580 (according to the Riveli (census) , he was a native of Himarë, Albania, He married MATTEA

2. SANTO NORCIA (MATTEO1) was born Abt. 1615 in "Plane de Grecorum" (Piana degli Albanesi) Sicilia. He married MARGHERITA GATTO January 20, 1636 in Carini, daughter of FRANCESCO GATTO and IPPOLITA DI AGOSTINO. She was born November 12, 1623 in Carini, Palermo, Italia.

3. LORENZO3 NORCIA (SANTO2, MATTEO1)1 was born January 16, 1661 in Carini, Palermo, Italia. He married (1) LAURIA November 1694 in (Missing Pages) Carini, Palermo, Italia. She died Bef. 1705 in Carini, Palermo, Italia. He married (2) NINFA GIOVANNA CAMPANARO1 October 08, 1705 in Carini (Palermo) Sicilia (Italia)1, daughter of GIACOMO CAMPANARO and VINCENZA MIGLIORE. She was born January 31, 1682 in Carini, Palermo, Italia.

4. MARGHERITA4 NORCIA (LORENZO3, SANTO2, MATTEO1)1 was born 1706 in Carini (Palermo) Sicilia (Italia)1. She married VINCENZO CATALDO February 20, 1724 in Carini (Palermo) Sicilia (Italia)1, son of GIUSEPPE CATALDO and FILIPPA. He was born Abt. 1700 in Sicilia (Italia)

5. ROSA CATALDO, b. Carini (Palermo) Sicilia (Italia)1; m. VINCENZO GAMBINO1, 1752, Carini (Palermo) Sicilia (Italia)1.

6. Vincenza Gambino married 1795 Giuseppe Buffa

7. Rosaria Buffa married 1816 Gaetano Taormina

8. Giuseppe Taormina married 1866 Angela Carollo

(I am directly descended in 7 different lines from Angelo Norcia, the son of Matteo and brother to your ancestor Santo.)

I'd be glad to look into your lines further when I get the chance.

Jim :)

You may want to look over Jim's site at Carini Exchange or the Carini forum at Carini Forum to see more about your family. Jim has traced the history of the town way back and together, and his cousin may be able to provide you with the information you are looking for as well.
