Pugno & Texel Family from Torino

Post by rstolliver »

Looking for information on Orso Texel abt 1860 died before 1910 was married to a Catterina Isoardi(o) had a son Nicolo born in Torino 23 Oct 1884.
I am not sure if there were coal mine sin this part of Italy but the Texel family seemed to be involved with coal ( immigrated to Wales in early 1900s) There is an old family story that Orso may have been an orphan, raised in an orphanage in the area

Also Looking for info on Ambrogio Pugno also b abt 1860 was also deceased before 1910. He married Melani Estras a french girl. The story is that this made the local women angry that Ambrogio went outside the village to marry and they would only refer to Melani as "That French WOman" they had a daughter, Angelina ( Angiolina) in Torino on 23 Oct 1887. The story of the orphanage was also attached to Ambrogio at times I do know that Ambrogio was a musician ( accordian?) and he played in local night spots for extra $. One night he was leaving his work and was robbed. He was hit on the head during the robbery and died of his head wounds - I know that this was before 1910 but where this occurred I don't know.

Nicolo Texel & Angelina later married in Wales in 1910 by 1922 they had immigrated to America

In Italy most records are located in the place of origin and docuemnts relating to births, marriages and deaths are provided free of charge. There are other documents that can be uncovered in the provincial capital but knowledge of the name of the city, town or village of origin is paramount. Can you please asdvise what information you are seeking and where did Orso texel originate? =Peter=

I was hoping to find either marriage certificates for either couple
or death certificates for any of my ancestors listed except Melani ( she came to NY in 1922) All of the information I have point to all but Melani having been born in Torino

Sorry- I am still so new to all of this-

The Family History Center has civil records for Torino from 1866 to 1978. This might give you some information about the family.

Hi!

I found a very interesting 1913 arrival manifest for Angelina travelling with her son Giuseppe (age 3) and joining her husband Nicola Texel in NY...

about Angelina Pugrien

Laura

I think Sordevolo may be correct- I know that Angelina's daughter Adele ( my grandmother) was very proud of her Piedmontase heritage.

Thank you!!

The name of the town SORDEVOLO is correct, they just mispelled the last letter on the manifest writing an "a" instead of an "o". Sordevolo is a small village which was in the province of Novara at the beginning of 1900, then in the province of Vercelli and now in the province of Biella (70 kms far from Turin). You can still find some persons with surname Pugno in the province of Biella, not in Sordevolo but in nearby towns.
What I don't understand is why Angelina declared on the ship manifest that she and her son were born in Sordevolo and you have them born in Turin. Her son on the census is born in England.

As far as I know there were no coal mines in Piedmont but there were in France. Many people from Piedmont went to France to work in coal mines.

Ada

BTW I'm from Biella!!

I was actually looking for the info for Angelina's parents- Ambrogio Pugno and Melani Estren ( Estras) or the info for parents of Nicolo Texel ( I know he was born in Torino) Orso Texel and Caterina Isoardi(Isoardo).

I got the information that Angelina was born in Torino from her death certificate- but as that information came from her son Joseph, it could very well be incorrect.

I have Angelina's son Joseph ( Guiseppe) birth record from Wales

If somewhere in my original post I stated that Joseph was born in Turin, I apologize.

I would suggest that you request for Angelina's birth certificate from Sordevolo and also ask whether there is a birth certificate for her father or a Marriage certificate for their parents. As I said is a small village, about 1,000 people. The officer in charge is

Geom. Silvana Coda Riz

This is the link with address and e-mail

Ufficio Anagrafe.
