Hello Sharon!
Do you have access to census records for your family?
They can be great starting points for other records.

If you check with your local library you may find that they offer in home access to some genealogical databases.
I live in Montgomery County OH and get access at home to HeritageQuest - great census records thru 1920, and several Ohio databases, thru my library (I checked out their website & signed up online)

Also, this free site has some older US census & some other terrific records - including Ohio
FamilySearch Pilot Site

This 1900 census, if it belongs to your family, has some great information
It’s from ancestry. com, a subscription site available for free at many libraries

Hope some of this helps,
Valarie

Hi Sharon,

just a little note, I found on this (free) site http://search.labs.familysearch.org/rec ... tml#p=home
two death certificate, one is for Rose Ambrose (age 9 months) who died on July 24, 1912... she was Rocco and Hattie's daughter... Hattie's name and lastname seem Helen Hoffmann
The other one is for Joseph Rocco Ambrose, their son and his mother is listed as Helen Hoffmann...

I don't have access but will check on that with the local library. Thanks for the suggestion.
That definitely is more information on the family than what I had to build on.
I did find the passenger list for Geza and Ilona Olah on the ellis island site but am not good at reading it and couldn't save it. They arrived Dec 26, 1908 as husband and wife. Tried to figure out the parent(s) name listed but couldn't. And the lines under them look like it could be one of their sisters, her husband and a small child? They were from Ugod, Hungary and going to Passaic NY

Didn't realize Hattie Hottmann could be Helen Hoffmann. haha Looks right though.
Thanks to both of you for your posts and help, I will keep looking.

Hello Sharon,

My condolences on the passing of your grandmother Margaret.

This site may help to explain "non-immigrant alien"
http://www.jewishgen.org/infofiles/manifests/other/

Finding Ilona's death information is a challenge.
From this site Cleveland Public Library
we only know that Geza was a widower when he died in 1972

Do you live anywhere near where they are buried?
Cemetery records can be a good source of information.

All of that information was very useful and appreciated. As you can see I took a break from my research and am at it again. I haven't been able to find anything else. I can't understand why I can't find a death certificate, obituary or anything on Helen Olah aka Ilona Olah maiden name Gyorgy. Or her parents. Or anything else about Geza Olah aka George Olah -- such as his mother's name; you did help with his father's name. Also would like to find the siblings of either Ilona or Geza. I did get in touch with a son of Geza's son George just last week! He too doesn't have much family information he says the family was estranged for whatever reasons. Helen Olah (the daughter) passed away single and at an early age. And Joseph Olah apparently had no children. George's first son Richard died as an infant and his son Theodore is the one I contacted. Margaret (our grandma Ambrose) had 2 children so that leaves me with only 3 from that generation unless I can find siblings of Geza and Ilona and their descendents.
They did live in NJ for awhile and then Youngstown, OH and lastly Cleveland, OH.

regarding AMBROSE:
I believe Rocco's parents are
Victor Ambrose b: ABT 1840 Italy
Mary Sarber b: ABT 1831 Italy
that is all I know of them.
From that point I am stuck.
Victor and Mary had 2 children:
Rose who married Louis Demelto
b: Aug 1876 Italy
d: 12 Dec 1956 Cleveland, OH
Rocco
b: 18 Feb 1881 Ohio
d: 24 Apr 1943 Ohio
Any additonal info is greatly appreciated! Thanks!
