Check out www.familysearch.org if you know the town of origin.
Information on how to search the films and translations can be found on my website.

The surname Sapio (your DeSapio as well) is a variation ofthe base surname SAVIO. The other variants are savi, Dal Savio and Del Savio, Lo Savio, LOSavio. Alternate forms are savioli,saviotti,saviozzo. The names are found thruout Italy. Those starting with LO are from the deep south while DAL Savio is Venetian. The origin of the surname Savio comes from a nickname formed with the use of the word savio meaning prudent, wise, knowledgable etc strating sometime inthe middle ages and the reanaissance.

The surname Savio and all its variations are listed inthe Italian surname dictionary. =Peter=

Hi Mike and welcome to the forum. The correct spelling of the town is....

Monteforte Irpino, province: Avellino - region: Campania

The LDS does have films (I think you just spelled the town name wrong) here is the link

http://www.familysearch.org/eng/library ... ato+civile++

This is the link to locate a Family History Center (FHC) so you can go in to order your films. Films have to be viewed at the center. Cost is approximately $5.50 per film and takes 2 to 4 weeks to arrive.

http://www.familysearch.org/eng/library ... et_fhc.asp

Post back if you have questions on the films and someone on the forum will help you.

Regards,
Elizabeth

You can also go to www.nonsolocap.it and put in Monteforte Irpino and click CERCA and then you will get zip code, name Monteforte Iripino (Province) and Region. Click on Monteforte Irpino name and map, website for town administration and www for tourist information. =Peter=
