Hello!

Here are both manifests on the Ellis Island site
(if you haven't been on this site before you'll need to do the free registration)

Some options:
- You can order copies from Ellis Island
- You can screen print
- You can click on the images on the forum and, depending on your computer,
you can choose to save the image to your desktop and print it from there

Ellis Island for Maria & children
Note - it’s 2 pages

Looking for other US records for you.
Are you sure of your grandfather's birth date?
It appears that there are several William Napolitano's all born between 1894 & 1897.
Do you have his death location and date?
Thank you!

Possible record, if the 1897 date was taken from his headstone, could it have been mistranscribed?

hi again,
Thank you so so so much, you have made my month, lol. I am confused maybe you can help me, lol. So guerino, which is my fathers father, the reason I started this whole search,; is really guerino, and his birth day is really december 18,. which makes sense accroding to his marrage application,. it says he was baptised in avella italy on dec. 18. so, I would be wise to assume his birth is in december., ok, no on my dads Birth certificate the last name naples makes so much sense, so is william Napolitano, really guerino napolitano, and on the ww11 draft is he williams naples? http://www.flickr.com/photos/pennyeddy/ pics of birth certificate with the name naples scratched out. the city data is my posting, I cant find where my grandmother elizabeth is buried,. She was married to william, and she did some strange stuff when she left him, changed the last names of her children to Howard. You have dug up gold for me, are there any pics of naturalization? Thank you so much....

Hello!
We're so glad we could help :D

Boy those folks on the other forum are really helpful!
It's a shame you can't track down the 1930 census.

My best guess
William Napolitano/Naples is Guerino Napolitano.
His birth date really can't be confirmed without his birth record from Avella.
We can help direct you on how to send for it if you'd like.
William himself listed 3 different birth dates  :
18 Dec 1896 in 1918 when he registered for the WWI Draft
18 Dec 1894 in 1942 when he registered for the WWII Draft
01 Jan 1894 when he applied for a social security number (between 1936 and 1950 in PA)

I wish we could find either a passport or naturalization paperwork for your family.
I double checked NY & eastern PA for Saverio Napolitano on footnote. com.
Best guess, he naturalized in NJ.
Here's a bit more about naturalization documents by Kimberly Powell at about.com:

Thank you, the BC confirms he used the name naples at one time, where else would elizabeth have gotten it from,. I would love a way to find out how to get the Birth Record, that would be a bonus...the naturalization looks like it might be a little tricky,...
Thank you again to all that is helping, I cant believe all the info so far.

Here’s how to write for Guerino Napolitano’s Birth Record:

The address to mail your request::

Ufficio dello Stato Civile
Comune di Avella
Piazza Municipio
83021 Avella AV
ITALY

This interactive form letter will translate your request into Italian
http://www.circolocalabrese.org/resourc ... civile.asp

When you get your record you can post a link to it on the forum for translation help

Hello!

The first clue to citizenship is on his census records (after 1900) - he may have been included under his father's naturalization

Here’s a great article on how to find naturalization paperwork by Kimberly Powell at about. com
http://genealogy.about.com/cs/naturaliz ... zation.htm

If he naturalized before 1906 and you know where he was, you can order his records from the local court

If he naturalized after 1906 you may need to go thru U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (the links are in the article)

Also here's a link to where to find records online by state:
http://home.att.net/~wee-monster/naturalization.html

wow!!! i got chills reading all of this!!! my grandfather, Stefano Napolitano was born in Avella in 1900. He was 1 years old when his family came to the united states. i'm hoping that you may have my missing links!!!! your grandfather could be his cousin! According to the ellis island manifests, stefano entered there in 1901. eventually, the family settled in Detroit, MI, but my grandfather went back to italy as a teenager where he eventually settled down and married my grandmother. talk about a gold mine, at least i hope it will turn out to be!!!
