Aldorisio Family Torella dei Lombardi

Post by RobertAldo »

I would like to find out what I can about the Aldorisio surname. My grandfather was born in Torella dei Lombardi, Italy in 1889 and came to the US in 1891. I see that there are still people with this surname in that town today. I would like to learn more about my grandfathers ancestors and other relatives and descendants that may still live there. Can anybody help?

While similar to other surnames listed in the Italian surname dictionary, there is no listing for ALDORISIO as a base name nor a variant, nor a derivative surname. It is ,however an italian surname and most likely is local in origin and associated with Alda=Alt in Gemran while aldo is of french coming thru literature and culture. =Peter=

Thanks for the replies. Peter, I guess I misspoke a little. I didn't really mean that I was interested in the origin of the name (although that is certainly of interest) I really meant that I was interested in tracing the individuals both forward and backwards from 1890.

Hello!
We'd be happy to help you find your US records
Many members here have subscriptions to databases that may help
To make sure we have the right family, do any of these records belong to your grandfather?
(there were several folks with the Aldorisio surname in the US born in 1889)
There are several public and private family sites on ancestry. com with this surname, are any of the sites yours?
Thanks, Valarie

Valaria, thank you very much for the info. I do not have a site on Ancestry.com, but my cousin Paul Butare does. The 1942 draft card for Joseph Ralph Aldorisio is definitely my grandfather, I have seen it before. Rose is his second wife, I understand that my grandmother (Amalia Giliberti) died in 1932 at age 38. I do not know who Generoso Ralph Aldorisio is, but I wonder if it could be the same person or a close relative because he immigrated in 1891, which is the year I understand that my grandfather came here too.

The family in the 1900 census is interesting. I notice that the name is missing the first "o" in the spelling. The other information seems fairly consistent with what I know about my family, but not exact. But I don't know very much.

I appreciate any help you can give me. I haven't yet had the time to review what you told me about Italian records, but I will do that soon.

Robert, I'm so glad we could find some records for you :D .
I believe Joseph's original name was Generoso.
Census spellings & dates can be off a bit - it really depended upon who was giving the information, how much they knew and whether or not the enumerator understood them.
We'll see if we can find some more US records for your family.

Aldorisio/Pullo

This is a possibility for Joseph Aldorisio's manifest,
his name may be listed as 'Pullo' instead of Generoso
Mother Angela traveling under her maiden name
(women in Italy keep their father's surname)
They may be traveling with a relative of Angela's

1893 manifest

4 Feb 1893 SS Hindoustan Naples to NY
lines 9-11
Angela Pullo 31, abt 1861
- last residence Torella
Pullo Aldorisio 3, abt 1889
- child
Domenico Pullo 15, abt 1877
- barber

Hey Biff :D !
I'm stuck on Vincenzo's manifest - checked the Castle Garden site too.
It must be badly transcribed.
It would be nice to know where they were headed. The town looks like it ends in 'port' on the 1893 manifest
