is there an order to all of the names in a full italian name

Post by vintagegamer »

My great grandfather's name is Giuseppe Giovanni Battista Salvo. Near the town he came from, there is also a Giuseppe Giovanni Battista Santino Salvo. At this point we are not sure of any bloodline relation between the two, but with those names, it's kind of hard to eliminate the possibility.

I'm trying to understand if there's a specific order in the italian naming convention, as I had a friend in High School whose family was from Sicily, and he too had more than just a first, middle, and last name. Can anyone shed some light on this type of naming convention?

Sorry, I'm probably not being clear in my question- a friend told me that in Spanish names, the person's first name is probably from their father, the second name from their mother's family, and then the third name in the lineup is most likely their actual name, or something like that.
