Marco Nuzzo
Hello,
I am looking for more information on my ancestor, Marco Nuzzo. I believe he is from Naples, but I need to pinpoint his birthplace more specifically.
I started by doing an Ellis Island search. I got the following:
Marco Nuzzo
Date of Arrival: Jul. 11, 1896
Ship: California
Port of Departure: Naples
Age: 36
Married
He doesn't list his last place of residence.
I then got a certified copy of his son's (my GGF) birth certificate from the Bronx. Marco's age of 42 at his son's birth in 1902 makes it likely that this is the same Marco from the Ellis Island record. Marco's wife is named Maria Martoni on the birth certificate. His son is Salvatore Nuzzo. Marco and his family eventually moved north from NYC into Orange County, New York.
I remember years ago my mom saying the Nuzzos were from Salerno, but now she says she doesn't remember saying that. I've done an Ancestry Library search, did a NARA and Orange County court naturalization search, and no results for him.
If anyone could be of assistance, I would be very grateful.

Samuel is Marco's son. He is my GGF. He was born Salvatore, but used Samuel for most of his life.

Hi!
From Ellisisland.org Here is the arrival manifest for Marco's wife Maria Martone on April 13, 1901. She was 41 years old, was travelling with her child Nicoletta (age 16) Pellegrino (15) Vincenzo (age 4) ...
She stated she was joining her husband Marco Nuzzo in New York.
They stated Santa Maria a Vico (Caserta Province - Campania region)as last residence in Italy:

Re: Marco Nuzzo
Laura, thank you for this! How were you able to decide that this was the right Maria Martone? When I searched "Maria Martone", I got 42 matches. I know I can eliminate some because of age, but did you just have to read the details of each entry one by one to see which Maria was married to Marco Nuzzo?pink67 wrote:Hi!

But I was pretty lucky.. it was only the third Maria Martone I was checking....
I'm trying now to find censuses with Marco and his wife (just to see if he was naturalized or not... I believe he wasn't because in the military enlistment for Pellegrino - WWI - he stated he was alien, while in the 1930 census he was naturalized, maybe his father was not Naturalized?) but I'm having no luck on this.... Do you know where they died?

Re: Marco Nuzzo
I'm confused....
On this very helpful site (free)
http://www.italiangen.org/vitalreclist.stm
I found a possible marriage record for a Pellegrino Nuzzo, who married on 1922 (unfortunately there is no record for the bride):
Surname Nuzzo
Given Name Pellegrino
Month of Marriage Aug
Day of Marriage 9
Year of Marriage 1922
County Kings
Certificate Number 9432
So, if this record is pertaining "your" Pellegrino the records I posted before (Pellegrino in Ohio, married at the time of the military enlistment for the first world war and in the 1920 census manifest) are not of the right Pellegrino Nuzzo...
What do you think or know about this? Is it possible he was in Ohio or it could be a case of namesake?

WHOA. This is crazy! We all knew my GGF was a labor bigwig, but had no idea he was involved in a larceny trial! I want to ask my grandfather about this, but I don't want to upset him. My mom had no idea about this! It seems like my grandfather has never told anyone.pink67 wrote:If you'll check this great free site:

Wow.... I didn't read the articles... are you sure it was him?
However the articles were published on local newspapers so possible the family knew about that... I'm italian and I don't understand well what the papers say...
Do you know where Marco Nuzzo and his wife died?
If you're interested in finding italian records you can search by yourself in the microfilms of the Mormons because I noticed they filmed the civil Registration for Santa Maria a Vico (from 1809 to 1929)...
