Trying 2 find Cardamones of Decollatura & Marascos

Post by CARDI »

My grand father was Raffael Cardamone . I found out that he came to the U S when he was 8 years old . We do not know much besause he never talked to the family about it . His mother remarried and her husband was Bernard Marasco .Raffael [Ralph] was born 1893 but we do not know what town for sure . We think it was Decollatura .Any help would be helpfull.

Could use some help from other members since I'm somewhat confused by the 1901 ship manifest for Raffaele above.

I'm trying to figure out who is on the line above Raffaele. It looks like Rachela Cardamone (male, single) with Raffaele listed as son. How could this person be single, not widowed, and show his son as Raffaele, and is Rachela or Rachelo an Italian male name? Also, the age seems off.

Cardi,
Since we know your grandfather's birthplace and birthdate from the ship manifest and WWII Draft Reg Card, you could write to Decollatura and request a photo copy of his original birth act which will give the names, ages and occupations of his parents. That will get you started in tracing your ancestry. Do you know your great grandmother's first name and her maiden name?

Cardamone

Hi Biff!
I think there is a hard to see correction
I see a 'F' written over 'male' for Rachela

- Raffaele may be traveling with his aunt (father's sister)?
His aunt would be joining her brother.

- Or his mother, traveling under her married name, she may be listed as single instead of widow?
His mother would be joining her brother-in-law...

- Or his mother, traveling under her maiden name, not married.
She would be joining her brother

Yes, it's confusing 8O
---

Marasco
possible 1930 census
married abt 1903

Hi, Valarie :D !

Thanks for your input on the manifest. Based on your 1930 and 1910 census finds, it looks like Rachela was Raffaele's mother.

Hello, Laura :D !
Nice find on the WWI card. So we definitely have Raffaele's birthdate and birth place.

Yikes!! They were held 7 weeks. And if deported and they returned there must be another manifest.

Laura,

Like you, I'm having a hard time determining the city name in PA but the manifest for Carmela and Raffaele Cardamone is a possibilty. Hopefully, Cardi will check in and knows the first name of his great grandmother.
