Anybody up for a challenge?

Post by montclaire »

I found this video online of Aviglianesi folk singers. What the heck are they saying? lol I'd like to know the gist of the song and the refrain, please. It's stuck in my head and I don't even know what they're talking about. Link below - Thanks!

All I can understand is the title and that says:
"This road is long and dark" and then the next line which says "and I don't feel afraid..."

But I found this site for the folk group who made that old video >Folk Group Aviglianese< - they are still going and though the lyrics for some of their songs are there - the one you want - isn't. But the old video is among those listed if you click on 'video'...

There is a contact point though and I would imagine that they will have the words/lyrics somewhere so we could still translate them... There are lots of interesting things on thieir site that is still, they say, 'Under Construction'...
If you think education is expensive - try ignorance!

Thanks. My grandmother can read/write a little Italian, but things that I have shown her from that region she says have a good bit of a Sicilian style dialect, which could make translation a little difficult I would imagine.

This version sounds a little clearer, even if a little less inspired :)

hi i'm giuseppe and i'm from gravina in puglia(bari) near matera.
i think this song is like:

this road is long and dark
and full of hardness (it sound "intostatura" is not italian)
but the road is not scary
and from this street i have to go

in this road is born a lily
and the smell is strong (is not the letteral translation because the original phrase is a way of saying. the letteral is : can not be there)
and a mum who grows a daughter
promised me that she will give to me

sorry for my poor english
