The records that you have is very impressing! Did he change his birthday on 1942 Draft registration.
Is that why we cannot find when he came to this country?

Wow I see alot of information that I did not know before! Like his second wife's name Flora? How do you get these information so quickly. Thank you; thank you so much.
I really would like to know what ship and when he came here. Thanks.
Rachelyne,
You're very welcome, we're always happy to help :D !
The records are from ancestry. com, a subscription site
I think he was married to Fortunata in 1930 since she is also on
his 1942 draft registration card.
Could Flora have been a nickname?
His manifest is a real challenge to find.
Perhaps tomorrow we'll get some more folks to help in the search!

Sorry again. I made a mistake in my previous post. In 1930 census is still the first wife but she also changed her name from Fortunada to Flora.
I would appreciate it also if you find out when she died. and when he got married to the second wife and her name.

Rachelyne,

I looked through the Oceania manifest and could not find a Luigi D'Alessio arriving the 18th of April 1911.

If I search using VJ's info (1909 immigration) there are a couple.

You can search the Ellis Island arrivals yourself by going too

http://www.ellisisland.org/search/

If there are bad links to the image data, ie the results point to a manifest but when you click it you go to another vessel (it happens) then go to

http://www.stevemorse.org/ellis/boat.html

Type in the ship name and arrival date, this will let you look directly at the manifest. Use the frame advance buttons to scan it page by page.

If VJ comes up with a naturalization (which she has the uncanny ability of doing so) then we can get the correct manifest to see who else came over with him (if anyone).

Was hoping that wife Fortunata’s manifest would help us find Luigi.
It doesn’t appear to…

Sometimes passengers arrive at another port such as Boston, Philadelphia or Baltimore and if that is the case you can call NARA. Go to www.angelfire.com/ok3/pearlsofwisdom/ships.html =Peter=

Good job, I don't maintain my subscriptions to Ancestry anymore so I'm glad to see someone else does and was able to help.

Dear Dan M I have found that immigrants destined to the midwest are mor e likely to use border crossings from canada since east coast immigrants never go much beyond Boston and Baltimore. =Peter=

Peter,

I agree, but there are several cases of east coast destinations arriving into Canada and then traveling too their end destination. Just as is the opposite case, many east coast arrivals who's end destination is the midwest.

But never hurts to check and those are sound words.

If Fortuna was still his wife in 1942 on the draft registration, the "Flora" in 1930 was just another instance of using an Americanized version/shorter form of the name for everyday. They had Americanized Rosaria as "Rose" and Gennaro as "Jerry" by 1930. If he was 28 in 1930 and 40 in 1930 then 1890 was about right as a b-date - so if he arived in this country in 1909 he was about 19/20?

Did the census have arrival/naturalization as 1909? If it was naturalization as 1909 he might have been in this country longer - did his parents come here or did he come with other relatives?
