Messina- 1930 Census states alien status? (good info inside)

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Sorry; I just realized that I missed something - the birthdate on the WWI draft card matches the Social Security death index, but not the WWII draft card. Can you confirm which, if either, of the birthdates is the correct one?

I've always been told that it is June 11, 1888. He was 66 when he died, and his tombstone says 1988 to 1954. (which would be 66 yrs).....

Okay, so the WWII card is good but not WWI or social security record.

The Social Security Death Index was first computerized in 196x (1966 if I recall correctly). Deaths which occurred prior to that date are not searchable online.

oh okay, so the death index would not be obtainable by the methods that you are searching for it, so I shouldn't worry about the 1887 to 1888 discrpency? Is there any way to tell is WWI and WW3 cards are in fact the same Paul Messina?

Does the WW2 card trump WW1? Sorry for the question blitz, this is all new to me

or I just really need to hope that this was not some manual data entry error on the SS Death Index part. that death year is a huge difference and would take some legal amendments

No, I think you are correct on the date of death at 1954 and I gave you an incorrect SSDI entry. Besides, you don't require any of these documents (draft cards, social security, etc) for your application; I just think they are fun to have and they help flesh out dates, places, etc.

JPMessina44 wrote:interesting, his DOB on WW1 and WW2 doesn't match. WWI looks like March 24, 1887 and WWII says June 11, 1888.

Ellisisland.org records matches the 1888 and the census shows approx 1887.
Hi Carmine, it was 2 Paolo Messina living in the Bronx and born, one in 1887 and one in 1888; the Paul born in 1887 was single in 1920 census ( another Paolo was born in 1882 so no pertaining this search); so I believe that the right Paolo Messina was born in 11 jun 1888 and this is the WWI draft reg. card:

World War I Draft Registration Cards, 1917-1918
about Paola Messina
Name: Paola Messina (Paolo)
City: Bronx
County: Bronx
State: New York
Birthplace: Italy
Birth Date: 11 Jun 1888
Race: White
FHL Roll Number: 1753943
DraftBoard: 8

They are awesome to have, to keep in my records. Amazing to think that these documents were signed or reviewed by my ggfather from almost 100 yrs ago. Fascinating.

Eventually i will want to do this for my other great grandparents: Salvatore Termini, Francesca Termini (maiden Lopiccolo), and Maria Messina (maiden desanto)

interesting, so my great grandparents must have been married sometimes between 1920 and 1930. They spelled Messina as Muccini this time though. Funny the first kid, Grace, ive never heard of....
