By the way, the 1930 census was from Cook County, Hinsdale, Illinois.

Where is the best place to find ship's manifests?
To search for Ellis Island manifest, this search engine is the best to use,
and produces better results than the Ellis site:

Thanks Wldspirit. I will try that. Also does anyone know how to go about searching for church records? I need the marriage certificate for my great grandparents and I'm not sure if there is a civic record but a church record might be available. I have no idea where to start with that!!!

Hi Julie,

You need all the documents you can get from both the USA and Italy in order to have the proper documentation to submit for dual citizenship.

If this is your Paternal side (father's side), then you need your father's birth record, marriage record, and death record (if deceased).

Then you have to do the same thing with his father (your grandfather). You have to get the birth, marriage, and death records from the USA on your grandfather.

From there you get the records for your great-grandfather.

So you are still going to have to write to Italy for the birth record of your great-grandfather. When you write to Italy, you can always ask if they have a marriage record for him too.

If Italy writes back and states they don't have a marriage record for him, then you know you have to find the record else where.

Here is the address for the town and don't forget to send a copy of a photo ID such as your driver's license and 2 IRC's which are International Reply Coupons that you can get from the Post Office for $1.80 each.

Ufficio Stato Civile
Comune di Poggioreale
Via Ximenes
91020 Poggioreale TP
ITALY

Here is a link from ICC that will help you translate your letter into Italian.

Here is the official web site for the town.

Hope this helps some,
Trish

Thanks Trish. I do have a relative who has done some geneology actually going to the town in Sicily where my great grandparents were born so he will be able to get some documents for me or at least tell me what is available. He has done some geneology on my dad's side and he thinks my great grandparents were married in Louisiana, Plaquemines Parish, because he never found any record of their marriage in Sicily. I'm having quite a time trying to find this marriage record or any records on Luigia (Louise) Zummo (Zuma, Zumma). Anyway, I'm hoping maybe we can produce something from one of the other offspring of my great grandparents. GRRR. Thanks for your help.

Trish,

I can't get the first link to work. Is anyone else having this problem? My internet was down most of today so I just want to make sure it is the link and not my service that has a problem.

Nuccia,

When I tried to open the Circolo Calabrese link, I received a message "Cannot find web site."
