Took a further look into the death record, as it turns out, parents were married in Wheeling on June 4, 1948. Joseph Louis list birthplace as New York, name also spelled on marriage record as Calangelo.

I wanted to thank everyone again. I picked up Nick's Declaration of Intent on Friday! I was sooo excited! My husband was with me and he was thrilled. We found several other of his family members papers on the same roll of microfilm.

My Colangelo ancestry is from the town of Stigliano in Matera Province. I have tons in my database, but nothing that connects to your Colangelo ancestry. I see that there are only three rolls of microfilm for the town of Paupisi civil records (1809-1860). You would have to write directly to the town for more recent information than 1860. Just because of the information is not on microfilm does not mean that is not available directly from the anagrafe (registry) office in the town.

This is website, but not an official website for the town. The link to the official website does not seem to work. There is an email address for the city hall on this website, which is where the registry or anagrafe office is located. You may want to try to email first before sending a letter. Recently I have been having luck emailing some of the anagrafe offices for information. Through email, you could confirm that your ancestor's information is in that town's registers and ask how you can obtain a copy of the extract or estratto of the document.
