Divorce on Birth Record
I was looking at a relative's birth record and noticed that she married on 1/1/09 and then under that it said "il a(s?) cancelliore 15/7/09" Does this mean that she got divorced, or possibly was annulled, 6 months later? I would have posted an image but my camera wasn't working.
Re: Divorce on Birth Record
Not seeing the document I can only guess that what you are seeing is the date the marriage notation was made by the official (15/7/09) and his signature...
If you post the image we can be more certain

Re: Divorce on Birth Record
Because I didn't have an image I was very careful to copy what was written. Above that comment WAS the marriage information already noted. I've seen other marriage notations, but not the comment as I have above with it.
Re: Divorce on Birth Record
Cancelliere means "Clerck", so possible it was the Clerck's singature with the date....

Here is a birth document with a marriage notation and the "il Cancelliere" written below...
Did your document notation look similar? As Laura said, it was the title for clerk...
Sometimes these notation weren't recorded for almost a year after the actual marriage...easy to misunderstand.

Thanks Tessa, but no, it doesn't look like that. I guess I'll just have to get an image and show it.

Re: Divorce on Birth Record
I assume /09 was either 1809 or 1909. Divorce wasn't legal in Italy until the 1960's I believe.

Re: Divorce on Birth Record
Hi. I have finally gotten the document in question scanned for you to see. I only hope that someone will see the new post and answer. I was asking more with regard to annullment than divorce.
Thanks for all who answer.

Also can you check this partial document. It's a Nascita.
I would like to know what it's stating after Guiseppe's name and
also what exactly is that concluding statement say that is written
by the Official. I see it often on documents, but have been
unable to make a good translation. My Italian is limited at this point.

Re: Divorce on Birth Record
Hello again
That is definitely not an annullment or divorce.
The notation reads:
On January 1, 1909, married with Giuseppe Sesta.
Then the notation date of July 15, 1909, followed by the signature of the official, whose title "cancilliere" means "registrar"

Re: Divorce on Birth Record
The writing at the bottom of the nascita says that the official read the act to the participants and only the witnesses signed with him below because the others were illiterate...
As for what is written next to Giuseppe's name...I would rather see the whole document to understand why it is written...

Re: Divorce on Birth Record
o.k. Tessa I have posted the full nascita doc below. There is nothing really different or unusual about it except for that one line about the baby's birth. Will you tell me about it?

Re: Divorce on Birth Record
next to Giuseppe's name on the birth document it says-"that I recognized to be without life." This is a birth record for a stillborn child.

Re: Divorce on Birth Record
Thank you maestra. I suspected it might have meant that. I got "senza vita", but couldn't get the beginning part. I am glad to know this. Believe it or not there was ANOTHER Guiseppe born almost to the day, a year later that lived. Because of that there had been some confusion within the family.

Re: Divorce on Birth Record
Not uncommon to use the name again if a child dies.
Was the next Giuseppe the child of the same parents?
You also might see MANY named Giuseppe in the family (cousins) because of the Italian naming tradition of naming the first son after the grandfather.
