Richiee1,

Lets just stick to this thread for now...its difficult to keep track of things if you jump around. Also, can you answer these questions for us.

So, your dad was JOHN Derwood Godfrey (or his first name was Derwood) and he died July 25, 2005. When was he born?

Did he die in Calagary? I don't want to get personal but are you able to get a hold of his death certificate? Do you know what his parents names were (your Nonno and Nonna) or in what year they came to Canada?

Answering these questions are very important.. The name Godfrey in Canada..especially out your way, goes way back so we need to determine if they came through Ellis Island or through Pier 21. Find out when your family arrived here. It will help.

Richi, now you have the death act of your dad; you must to search the birthact now! from birthact you can descover more about the first Godfrey italian( your grandfather), otherwise on your grandfather we have not birthdate, no deathdate, no marriage date, no name spouse etc etc etc etc... you understand me that YOU MUST SEARCH IN CANDA ALL POSSIBLE DATA AND AFTER WE CAN HELP YOU ABT ITALIAN GENEALOGY! YOU MUST TO CONTACT ALSO GOFFREDO PEOPLE living in CANADA and to ask the italian origin place, maybe they can be related with your ancestor.. suanj

and to ask the italian origin 's birthplace, so we can help better, because GIOVANNI GOFFREDO is a popular name in Italy, and perhaps your ancestor came in Canada by ellis island, and to know a probable italian birthplace can help us for to search the ship's manifest.. many italians came in Canada by ellis island port NY, USA.. so we know that many Giovanni Goffredo desembarking in ellis island, but we cannot read all ship's manifest in the hope of to find something, some info, and for this I advice you of:
-to find the probable birthyear of Giovanni Goffredo italian
- ditto for the death
-to find the italian birthplaces of Goffredos in Ontario ( because it is possible that was the same, normally where came a paisano came also another paisano, of same birthplace)
-to find the name spouse( your grandmother/paternal line)
-the marriage date
-the name of all children
-the rumor of a probable immigration year
and so..
