Hi -- In Filomena's line: Guarascio/Grego: Did any of Innocenza's siblings/cousin's children immigrate to U.S? (Guarascio/Greco)

John's Line: Greco's/Buffone?

My mother said that her parents were not cousins, but they both had Greco's in their line, and of course Reda's. Also, nearly the same first names (or variations, thereof) occurring -- I wonder.

Hey Rita :D !
May be tough to make connections unless you find
relatives ‘joining’ someone you know on a manifest,
or relatives living with relatives on census records.

An example of a tough to prove record:
SS Verona 22 Oct 1913 Napoli to NY
page 1
page 2
Maria Guarascio Reda 54 & daughter Filomena 18
- in Carolei, brother?-in-law Francesco Rocco?
- joining husband/father Raffaele Reda in Seattle
- born in Carolei

If this sounds like an interesting exercise...
The fastest way to find possibly related records is
to use the Ellis Island Gold Form.
You can fill in any combination of 'facts' or even nothing
but a location! Even partial names/locations because of the
chances of mis-spelling in the transcriptions.
It really helps that you have two locations :) - it narrows
down the possibilities.

What do you think?
Valarie

ps, we never asked if you're ready to go after your Italian records...

Hey Rita!
I'll relink the Gold Form
Dr Stephen Morse One-Step Ellis Island
Since Ellis Island is a free website, if you can't reset your password,
you could re-register.
The Steve Morse One-Step pages are an alternate way of accessing
many genealogical databases using more flexible searches:

going after the records?

Rita,
it appears the LDS (Church of the Latter Day Saints) has microfilm
for civil registrations for the three locations in Italy that have come up
so far in your research.
You can go to the nearest Family History Center and order the films
you'll need for less than $6 each (for 1 mos).
You would also view them at the center when they arrive.

Home page FamilySearch

The records will be in Italian, but with practice they become pretty
easy to noodle out.

This home page also includes a link to a free genealogy program (PAF)
for keeping the information you've already gathered organized.

A terrific research guide from the LDS will explain what you can expect to
find in these records.
You won’t be disappointed!

Valerie -- Thank you! The LDS stake center is very close to my home -- I'll probably try to visit it next week -- or after Christmas. I'm exited to look on the other sites.

Hi Valerie -- I believe Wards in the LDS church are equivalent to a Catholic or Protestant parish; I think the Stake Center is the "Head" Ward in a given area - like a deanery office or maybe a diocese (?) -- I do know that the Stake Center in town has a gen. library and is open for public useage -- staff also provides assistance, and as you mentioned earlier, there is a minimal fee for ordering micro-film.

Once again, the information you sent will certainly be helpful on my quest -- of course, I need to read it first!

Take care.

Valerie -- You are welcome!

I was sharing information with a cousin this evening & she was amazed at what has been added to our base knowledge of the familia(sp?) She & I are actually 1st-cousins once removed - I am 4 mos. older. Her mother is my first cousin (25 yrs older?) -- It was special for her to discover that Filomena's mother was Innocenza, because her grandmother Jennie Marie, was named after her (& apparently all of the Maria's in the family) - Jennie, of course, being an americanized version of Innocenza.

[Now she wants me to help her with a mystery on her paternal side; and just like me, there are more gaps on our paternal lines, so now I really have a "full load" so to speak... ]

I have a new question -- I'd like to find Baptismal records for Filomena & Giovanni; so...were there several Catholic Churches in Caroeli (Filomena, 1883) & Domanico (John 1876)? How do I find out how and I how do I contact the parish(es), if indeed, they still exist?

Also, just a general question on posting...My choices in this thread are "new topic" & "post reply" -- I understand that the post reply would be to whomever replied last -- correct? Because I was the one whom posted last on this thread, I figured it would just attach - (because, certainly I'm not replying to myself!) However, if someone else had posted last & I just had a general question, i.e. not in response to the other reply -- would I begin a new topic & still have it remain in this thread -- Anyone who can answer -- I'd appreciate the assistance.

Thank you.
