Parenti Family of Castelvecchio/ LUCCA

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Parenti Family of Castelvecchio/ LUCCA

Post by carloparenti »

Looking for any information on my Grandfather Alberto Parenti from Capannori, Castelvecchio LU.

He left Italy at age 17 and arrived at Ellis Island 1913, eventually making his was to San Francisco (Half Moon Bay/San Mateo County) where he married Alice his wife. They had 3 daughters, Norma, Marie and Gloria Parenti.

He left all behind for reasons unknown to me and returned to Italy after WWII where it is believed that he remarried. He never became a U.S. citizen.

Other families he may have been associated with after he returned to Italy are the Del Seppia Family in Firenze.

Hello and Welcome to IG!

Are you looking for US or Italian records? On his 1913 manifest, it lists his father as Pasquale and a brother Giulio whom he is joining in San Francisco. I can post images if you need them.

Edited to add California Death Record.

Carlo,
Although the records I posted appear to be for Alberto and his brother Giulio based on the ship manifests and places of birth, I cannot explain why his wife is shown as Gelsomina not Alice and there are no children named Norma, Marie or Gloria on the 1930 census. Perhaps there was more than one family with the Parenti surname from Capannori who emigrated to San Francisco.

This may have been the same Alberto Parenti, but his place of death was back in Italy in the 1950's and we have the photo of his cemetary plot.

He had a history of leaving one wife already. We know he was arrested for something in Truckee, California and perhaps this led to his deportation. My mother wrote to him once in the 1950's...shortly after he received the letter her grandmother is Italy informed her of his death and my Mother will not divulge to any of us what she told him.

There is another 1930 census record showing Alberto Parenti as Head of Household for Theodora Gonzales (Alice's mother) in Half Moon Bay, CA and it lists my mothers name as Dolly Parenti instead of Norma Parenti as this was apparently a nickname of hers from her Aunt Dolores (Alice's sister) the Gonzales and Barra side of my Mother's-Mother who came from Mexico via Spain as one of the original DeAnza Expedition families.

In 1997 I went to Italy to study abroad and to my surprise my Mother suggested I meet of with her cousin Vanda, but first she had to clear this with the Parenti's back in Chicago who knew the entire story of Alberto and since my late aunt June (Marie) worked with an Attorney's for about a decade to get rights to their share of his estate there was a lot of concern that I was coming to stake a claim. They were awarded a share but all 3 sisters needed to appear together...this never happened. I have the will in my possession. I have no desire for any of their property.

The whole thing is just bizarre.

If you can leave the family history aside for the moment, are you saying that you are not interested in the abandoned property in Italy that, if you are a descentant, should pass to you according Italian law?

This means that squatters in Italy will claim it.

Because of the Chicago connection...they have made this very difficult. Today I would say that I am not interested due to financial issues in attempting to file a claim...but in theory, yes, I would eventually do this for myself and my siblings. My sister and myself are applying for Citizenship through "Jure Sanguinis" which in itself is so much work.

I have found out the Del Seppia last name connection, Gelsomina Parenti was formerly Gelsomina Del Seppia, she married Alberto Parenti.

When I was in Italy in 1997 I stayed with Lido and Vanda Del Seppia, Lido was related to Gelsomina.

This is the same Alberto Parenti, he must have left Gelsomina and his daughter Ida in San Francisco and strayed 30 miles away to Half Moon Bay where he met Alice and married her and fathered 3 daughters...Norma, Marie and Gloria...he left them too and returned to Italy where I am sure he fathered more children there.

My grandfather is Guilio Parenti the butcher in San Francisco referenced in the posts.
He married Clorinda Cavagnaro and they had 5 children Olga, Vera, Louis, Raymond and Gloria. All of us from Guilio Parenti live in the SF Bay Area.
His brother Albert had a wife Gesomina and they lived in San Francisco and had daughters named Norma and Emma Parenti. Both never married. Looking at the property records from Carria the names listed on ownership also mention a Rita. Whom I remember visiting San Francisco in the 80's. I don't know if this is the same Albert who had another life in HMB.

I am jBianco but I did not post the original message . I do in fact have questions about the Parenti/Biancalana and Chicago connection. My grandmother's maiden name was Isola Biancalana..from Lucca,Carraia one of the daughters of Alberto & Adela who had a cousin in Chicago named Parenti whom she lived with when she came to USA(1912). Any info about Chicago connection with Biancalana would be most appreciated.
