HELP! Parenti family of Castelvecchio/ about to give up!

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

HELP! Parenti family of Castelvecchio/ about to give up!

Post by carloparenti »

OK, I have been on the trail for over a year now...I thought I finally nailed it, I have been following the wrong Alberto Parenti.

My grandfather was UMBERTO Parenti, son of Giovanni and Carmina Parenti, but he went by Alberto when they did the 1930 census that shows up for San Mateo County/Half Moon Bay California.

Last night I spoke with my aunt, she told me that on the back of a photo she had it listed Umberto with his 3 sisters Lena Del Porta, Nella Iacopetti, and Yolanda Massoni.

I have the legal documents that gave my mother and her 2 sisters June and Marie (Umberto/Alberto) daughters power of attorney for the estate of Yolanda Massoni

Now on the 1930 census Alberto is listed as an alien under citizenship, but his father shows up as non-alien citizen as he entered the US a few times from Italy. I know Carmina my GGM died back in Italy and so did Umberto/Alberto.

How do I find out who was (if any naturalized) as this will kill my chances for the dual citizenship. Any help or info. would be helpful.

Hello!
I'm guessing you'll need to confirm his US records again?"
From your other post, Biff found this 1930 census
Umberto Parenti was born abt 1902-3?
Thanks, Valarie

Were Umberto and his parents ever in Corning (Steuben County), NY?

Right...this I have and his date of birth was 12/2/1902, so since this was taken in 1930 it gives his age as 28 which makes sense, he is listed as "al" which i would assume is alien (so he was not a citizen?)

Giovanni his father entered the US 3 times 1903,1909 and 1913. I wish I could find information on their return to Italy as Umberto left Alice his wife and daughters behind and died in Italy. The family rumor is that he was deported.

Yes, this is my GGF, we had the date of his birth 12/9/1874, but in Italy I believe they put month first, then day and year so date of birth as September 12,1874 is dead on.

Now for Umberto coming into Canada again, does this mean that Giovanni returned to Italy finally as it states nearest relative is Giovanni in Italy?

Not necessarily; just means that at the time Umberto returned his father was in Italy.

OK thanks. I will have to look into everything again and send for new birth and death certificates. But this new info is great.

It stated somewhere that Giovanni was going to see his brother PARIS here in America, but I cannot locate that name.

I cannot find any more information about Umberto after he came into New Brunswick, Canada in 1920. He eventually turned up in Half Moon Bay, California for the 1930 census under "Alberto" after that he really did just disappear for good.

I noticed that it states Giovanni was meeting his brother "Paris" which I am certain this was not his name and there is a Vittorio Parenti that came to meet a cousin in Niagara Falls.

So there is Carmina coming with Umberto to meet Giovanni her husband in Corning, New York which is not too far from Niagara Falls but I know they had more family in Chicago.

I cannot find any information on his sisters "Nella" "Lina" or "Yolanda" which I am thinking they were all born here after Carmina arrived since Umberto was the oldest child when he arrived at age 15 months from Castlevecchio.

The sisters names went from Parenti to the following Nella Iacopetti, Lina DelPorto, Yolanda Massoni (husband Rudolfo or Rodolfo.)

My Mom's Aunt Nella was the only one who stayed in touch with my mother Norma because she felt bad that Umberto left his wife Alice and returned/deported back to Italy. My mom said deported as this is what she was told by her mother Alice.

Sorry for the long post but I really need assistance as me and my sister are the last American Parenti's to file for jure sangunis under Umberto.

By the way they all died back in Italy his mother Carmina died in 1967, Umberto in 1951 and Giovanni in 1942.

Aunt Nella left power of attorney to my mother from her share of the family land back there, who then passed it on to us and there is another name mentioned on it "Arbini" in San Rafael, California.
