Searching for Pietro Cecchini b. 10/14/1889 emig->New Jer

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Searching for Pietro Cecchini b. 10/14/1889 emig->New Jer

Post by saracecchine »

I am searching for Peter (Pietro?) Cecchini, born 10/14/1889 in Italy, emmigrated to New Jersey around 1903. Had a wife named Rhoda who was also born in Italy. 4 known children from 1920 NJ Census were Marie, Jennie, Peter and Joseph. Looking for any information on their siblings or ancestors. as well as origination. The matching US immigration records can not be found. I do not speak italian, and could use any help I can find. Peter may have been a stone cutter or stone crusher (it was hard to read).

The only close immigration record I have found is that a Guiseppe Cecchini, age 42 came to Ellis Island on the Piemonte, from Naples with his son Pietro age 16, arriving on 6/19/1906. They were going to Guiseppe's brother Francesco in Jersey City. I can not make a definate match on the relationship, but I could use some help if someone could prove or disprove the connection.

Peters youngest son Joseph had his name mispelled on his birth certificate to Cecchine

Thank you,

Sara Cecchine

file a form 81 with NARA (National Archives) for passenger arrivals at NARA, 201 Varick Street, New York, N.Y, 10014-4811 Telephone#212-40101620. You can write for form 81 to nara or go to www.genealogylookups.com.narchives.htm for copy of form 81. Peter

Thanks Susie,

I have his date of birth from the Social Security records. In reading the manifest, it said his destination was to Nevada. to be with family. That portion does not match up. I know they lived in New Jersey and raised their family there.

Thank you, I will try that. If my current lead does not work. I found a living Son of Pietro, I'm hoping he answers my message. He's the best lead I found so far, but I haven't heard back from him yet.

Since your certain of his entry and his date of birth you do not need to file form 81 but there are 9 Cecchini persons ion the state of Nevada which is not very populated and mostly desert. Do you know to whom he was destined to in Nevada back then? Peter

Peter definately went to New Jersey

Post by saracecchine »

Peter's descendants live in New Jersey, That's where my husband and all of his family come from. I just have a tough time getting to find the immigration and beyond. I have matched up Peter and Joseph and Joseph's brother Frank to the 1920 and 1930 census's. I am trying to put it all together to get to where I need to in Italian records. By the way, the relative I called never called back, so far. Does anyone know if there is such a place as Sessa A's or where it is?

Thanks a bunch...Sara :D
