Need information

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Need information

Post by MSanchez »

I'm looking for information about my Italian ancestors without going to Italy.
How do I do this using the Internet. My grandmother was from Pietrelcina near Benevento, Italy. My grandfather was from Paduli, near Benevento.

Did they come to the USA? I have just requested a search on my GGF from USCIS: http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/ ... 18190aRCRD
It cost $20. That would be a beginning.

If they didn't leave Italy, I'd check the white pages in Italy. Find someone with the same family name, explain who you are, and ask if they know any more information about your grandparents:

http://www.paginebianche.it/index.html
You will be asked to enter: cognome (family name) {It actually says "cognome o azienda" which means family name or company}
nome (given name)
dove (town)
The last box says "vicino a" which means near

This site has sample letters in Italian:

Here is the letter (from the above site) for this purpose. Just insert your information. If you are not Australian, you can change that part. The English version is first, followed by the Italian version:
