MASCARI / CAITO ---- PLEASE HELPPPPPP!

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

MASCARI / CAITO ---- PLEASE HELPPPPPP!

Post by PauloG »

Trying to find records of my great grandparents. Both came from Italy to the USA. I believe they were from Sicily--possibly Termini Imerse.

Petrina Caito born about 1872 came to USA about 1885
Paul Mascari born about 1859 came to USA about 1885-1889

The US Census says that Petrina was 21 when she ws married and Paul was 40.

Im looking for both of their parents names(given/surnames), when and where Petrina and Paul were married.

According to the 1920 census Petrina came in 1890 and Paul in 1885. Paul is listed as naturalized and Petrina as an alien. I don't believe this is correct as during this time period women obtained citizenship status from their husband or father. If Paul was naturalized, so was his wife.

Paul,

I am replying to your PM. You will get the most help this way.

I am sure someone will link it for you. My internet is running slowwww today. Sometimes it helps to find USA records to make the jump. Please tell us what research you have done or records you have.

Can you confirm that your great grandparents are the same people that are shown in the 1900 Census from Indiana? If they are...you can find their marriage record in Termini Imerese and their birth records plus records of their parents within the Termini-Imerese.org website's Database. This site is a great resource if your relatives were from Termini-Imerese. There is a reasonable fee to access their database. It is well worth the cost. You will be able to find many of your relatives and possibly connect with your distant cousins.
Have you found their death records? These typically help you confirm their birth dates, and possibly their parents names and birth.

Hello Paulo,
Your great-grandparents are part of my family tree and I have researched their lineage back to Termini Imerese into the 1700's. I am related to your gt-grandmother, Pietra Ardizzone Caito and you and I are about 4th or 5th cousins.
I belong to the Termini Imerse website that was mentioned in the above notes and was involved with Laura in the early stages of working on the Termini Database. I have access to the database. For starters, I can tell you that Paulo Mascari and Pietra Caito were married in Termini on March 30, 1889. Paolo's parents were Michele Mascari and Giuseppa Comella while Pietra's parents were Gaetano Salvadore Ardizzone Caito and Giuseppa Maria Mascari. I have many, many Mascari ancestors as my gt-grandparents were also a Caito and a Mascari.

Hi Paul,
John Mascari here (from the TI database). I'm glad you helped out. I also found the family records within the database and was in the process of contacting PauloG through private messages on this site (PM). The TI database is the fastest way to find our TI family history. Thank you, Laura and everyone else who helped create this great resource! I think all of us with Mascari ancestors from Termini Imerese are connected if we go back far enough. Ciao Cousins!

If you would like to keep your email confidential as well as address/telephone numbers, you can access the Private Message feature located at the bottom left of all post.
The message is between you and the recipient, no one else, not even staff, has access to the message.
Hope this helps,

Hi, Paulo

Did your Paul and Petrina Mascari live in Terre Haute, Indiana, where Paul died December 26, 1934, and Petrina died July 13, 1943? If so, you and I are second cousins-in-law. Paul and Petrina had a son Michael Mascari, who died in Terre Haute January 9, 1963. He had a son Paul Mascari, who was killed in action in Europe on August 13, 1944. Paul married Catherine Lowe, who was my mother's cousin. They had a son Michael Mascari, whom I keep in contact with. He is in the same generation as you, so you and he are second cousins. He and his wife Lisa live on Long Island. They are planning to visit Termini Imerese, Sicily, the ancestral home of the Mascaris, this summer.

Hi Randy,

Great to hear from you. I knew my mom had an uncle mike and his son ws killed in the service. SHe remembers him well. So did Paul and Catherine have any other children. Is Catherine still alive. She must have remarried if Paul died in the 40's.

Love to hear more.

Paul
