Morganti and Selvas

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Morganti and Selvas

Post by jinxedtwice »

Hello. My Italian great grandparents Abbondio Morganti and Elvira Selvas emmigrated to Argentina in the late 1800's. Two Children were born in Buenos Aires. Maria Morganti in 1873 and her brother Frances Morganti in 1875. The family then went to England around 1880.
How can I obtain birth certificates from Argentina or any information which might ultimately tell me what part of Italy they came from? Thank you.

I also found this Argentina National Census listing...
Don't know if it's relevant, but thought I would pass it along...
Found it at this site beta.familysearch.org (also free)

Age: 21
Estimated Birth Year: 1848
Province of Birth:

I think it states that the above "Abundio Murganti" was single. Could he and Elvira Selvas have married in Argentina?

Hello Tessa 78. I notice on the Vital Records Index there is provision for more detailed information. Would this be obtainable or was it not always compulsory. I am not sure where Abbondio and Elvira were married. I don't have a subscription to Ancestry but as Abbondios brother was married to a Dismore, I believe that would be the same family. Thanks for your help.

The Index might be an abbreviated version of the record, but I'm not sure. I'm assuming the records are available to view by renting the microfilms through your local LDS (Mormon) Family History Center. They are located all over the world.

I found this listing for microfilms of the baptisms of catholics in San Telmo District (1813-1925). I'm guessing that is the same one listed for Florabante's baptism.

Here is the link to the film information...

On the Family Tree on Ancestry there are a few documents referenced. Do you have/want the England Censuses? There is a marriage document (banns?) for Lawrence Morganti and Sophia Dismore where Lawrence lists his father's name as "Collard Morganti", occupation - farmer. Collard could have been a misspelling of Carlo, Calogero, Colombano, etc.

I can try posting those here for you if you want them...

I have the UK Census but the marriage banns were interesting. I am really trying to get information that will help me find the parents of Abbondio and Elvira. I will try the FHC tomorrow.

Hello jinxed! Do you know any more about Frances?

He emigrated to North Tonawanda, NY, USA from London in 1893 to work for a band organ manufacturer
named Eugene de Kleist. This is my home city and I have been researching
The musical instrument trade.

Family legend says Frank emigrated without telling
His parents. When the body of a similarly-aged boy
Was discovered not long after in the Thames,
It is said, the family held a funeral. The story winds up that
frank eventually paid for the funeral.

Would be exceedingly grateful for any confirmation or denial.

Have a few pics of him you may be interested in.

Hello agenbyte,
Yes, I do have this information about Francis (Frank). I have a few photos but would be interested in the ones you have. Are you related to the Morganti family?
