Yeah, me too!
I do this for others because I know how frustrating it can be...
Interesting footnote...
The indexes for Falerna (this is the first time I've used them) are alphabetical from 1810-1916... EVERYTHING in one index! Makes finding a particular surname easier.

His parents:
Francesco Folino Gallo born 1858
Caterina Marianna born about 1861
His grandparents:
Saverio Folino Gallo born about 1820
Tommasina Cimino born about 1822
Maria Romana Crocco (GM?) born 1904
Her parents:
Saverio Crocco born about 1866
Antonia Maruca
I'll see what else I can find on Maria's side.
Some days we really get lucky!

Tessa, I did not have the birth record and marriage act. Again, thank you so much. How do you get this information? Does anyone have access?
Re: New Member on this Site
You're welcome!
There are not many Italian records online, but some are accessible.
These are from Ancestry.com with a World membership.
Glad to have helped.

Also with an Ancestry . it membership instead of World. Another option, a regular Ancestry . com membership plus an Ancestry .it membership; the latter only costs €10 for a full year. These two memberships together are a lot less expensive than Ancestry . com World.Tessa78 wrote:You're welcome!

Signing up and using Ancestry . it can be confusing if you don't speak/read Italian, but with the help of Google's page translator ( http://translate.google.com/ ) it can be done.

I will definitely join ancestry.com. I'm doing all of this for my mom who wishes she could go to Italy to see where my grandparents lived, but she is almost completely blind so she is doing (or having me do) as much as she can online.
Here's a story that I doubt we could ever find out about. It seems that my grandfather's father, that would be Francesco Folino Gallo, was murdered by a midget. I don't know if that is true. I do know that he was killed by a "small" man.
Maybe someday I will get over my fear of flying and go to Falerna!

You're right, that may be a difficult story to find out about.
The death records in Italy do not usually give a cause of death. So Francesco's morti will only contain information on his age, his date, time and place of death, and the name of his wife if she survived him.
BTW - have located two possibilities for birth records for Maria Romana Crocco Gallo's mother - Antonia Maruca.
Checked the birth index from 1858-1878 and found these:
Antonia Maruca born 17 September 1863, to Giovanni Maruca, 36, day laborer, and to his wife Rose DeLuca, 32.
Antonia Maruca born 9 June 1875, to Gennaro, 43, day laborer, and to his wife Isabella Gallo, daughter of deceased Rosario.
There is a notation on this record, but it has been purposely blocked (funny, I found that on a lot of the record notations )
Have been looking for the marriage record of Saverio Crocco and Antonia Maruca to help identify the correct record from above.

Have you tried a "virtual" trip?Falerna wrote:I will definitely join Ancestry.com. You can use google maps street view to travel through the town of Falerna.
Maybe one or two of the street names in your ancestors' birth records are still there - and if they are not, it is still a fun experience - like you are walking down the street.
BTW - the street names I saw on the docs were:
Pietro's birth - #55 Via Montagna
Maria's birth - #15 Via Sanitaria

Re: New Member on this Site
It does not have much to do with the research, but I was the one digitizing those records in Falerna a few years ago for Ancestry and I am super happy someone is using them for the research!!!
