New York State Immigration Resort Circa 1913

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

New York State Immigration Resort Circa 1913

Post by stfrancis »

Hello, thought I should post this here, given the high viewership

My grandfather immigrated to New York City, around 1895, and then immigrated up to Montreal in 1902. I have very little info about him. I do know he visited relatives who remained in Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, and Franklin County.

I discovered an old photo of his family, circa 1913, taken at a resort named "Hotel Jamaica". See attachment.

I am wondering if you would have any idea where that hotel is actually located. I am told it is practically impossible it is in Jamaica, Caribbean, since no Italians would be accepted there.

It appears to be in the New York "country side", for middle-class Italians.

My search on the "Internet" has been negative.

Any input would be appreciated
