american birth certificate

Again I need the guidance of the forum brain matter.


How do I go about requesting a birth certificate from America? I have the year of birth at 1889 for Vincenza Marinaro. Possibly born in New York. Her parents are Vinzenco Marinaro & Maria Rosa Chiusano. I have visited the NARA site but find it confusing.

Birth certificates are issued by the state the birth occured in, not the government. NARA does not have vital records. Each state has different rules for who can request a certificate and how much exact informatiion is needed. If you can find it on microfilm, that could be one option.

I know there are some on-line resources for NY, but do not have them bookmarked. Try google for NY birth records online. Perhaps someone else will have a link.
