The story as told by my mother-in-law, now deceased, is that her mother was born in 1884 in Montevideo, Uruguay on a ship that left Italy for America. Is that a possible route to America back then? Thanks

Hi. Italians emigrating to the United States would not have gone to Uruguay but many Italians did emigrate to Uruguay instead of the USA. Often, when Italians talked about going to America, South America was included.
