Polito/Angilletta&Fuda surnames

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Read your post quickly. Does this mean he just died? That would make sense because Dad talked to him a few years back...But then that could mean 10 years back with dad's memory!

Thank you Valerie. I am writing things down as you post. So much for work again tomorrow!

Its okay Valerie,

I understood what you meant. Quick Fingers.....? Have some of my own!

So as with Angilletta tradition, Bruno lived to be 101 years old. Nonno Bruno died when he was almost 100..(got agitated one night and had a heart attack while at the hospital for an appointment he didn't think he needed).

There's an old family story about which Angilletta will live a long life. It has to do with your pinky fingers. If you have one thats bent, you will live long...Nonno Bruno had it, my dad has it and has beaten cancer twice so far. His brothers didn't have it and they are decesed. Dad laughs 'cause he says I have it too. I tell him I'm not going anywhere too soon because like him, I'm too miserable! Time will tell!!!

Now, if I could found Domenico Fuda, BIL to Giuseppe, I might be able to tie up a few more lose ends. I really want to know who Nonnas first husband was and no one remembers!!!

Thanks

Will update this post...

You had mentioned that Francesco Bruno's father was Rocco Angilletta...

Here's a manifest with 2 Angilletta's travelling together... father in Italy is Rocco...

Last Place of Residence: Grotteria, Reg. Cal.
Date of Arrival: Mar 14, 1910
Ship of Travel: Duca di Genova
Port of Departure: Napoli

Guiseppe (line 6) born 1884, and Salvatore (line 3)... born 1888... tho this record does not say that they are brothers.

There's one more Angilletta out there who's father in Italy is also Rocco...

and these Angilletta's are forever travelling with the Panetta's!!

0002. Panetta, Bruno M 27y M Italy Italy South Grotteria, Reg. Cal.
0003. Angilletta, Salvatore M 22y S Italy Italy South Grotteria, Reg. Cal.
0004. Panetta, Salvatore M 36y M Italy Italy South Grotteria, Reg. Cal.
0005. Panetta, Pietro M 38y M Italy Italy South Grotteria, Reg. Cal.
0006. Angilletti, Guiseppe M 26y S Italy Italy South Grotteria, Reg. Cal.

Dad doesn't remember the Pannetta name, nor any of the other names I noticed on several manifests like Bruzzesse, Nigro, or Misti. I recognized Albanese and Fragomeni but this is too far back for me to examine since I don't know the specifics of those families.

Judging by something I read that Trish posted, if I order the Processetti of Bruno and Caterina, it should have the deceased spouse's name on it. This maybe the only way to know for sure. There are a few problems though. From which town do I order them (Bruno was originally from Ardore, Caterina, from Mammola I think) yet they lived in Locri in Caterina's house which she acquired as part of her dowry from her parents. Also, they were married sometime between 1918 and 1920...are there records of those years?

Next, because this was Caterina's second marriage, she only married civially and not in a church So, would I order the Atto di Solenne Promessa di Celebrare il Matrimonio or does it aspply in this case? There would onviously not be a Atto di Matrimonio if I read the info correctly.

If someone could clarify this for me I would appreciate it.

Thanks

I'm sorry virginiafucca,

All the Polito's I've been researching were from Cosenza area. No one I know is from Sicily.

Thanks Maria!

I knew I could count on you!

When you and vj found the Bruno Angilletta info (manifest and census) and the Domenico Fuda going to join BIL Giuseppe Angilletta manifest...I realized that I couldn't find any more info on Giuseppe or Domenico. Only the 1930 census is correct...

So, if Giuseppe was in PA(Schuykill prior to 1920 I believe) then where are the census and boat record for him?

What happened to Domenico? Looking frantically for census info...

Hi All,

Very new to this site. I actually just googled Cretin ship 1921 and stumbled upon it. I'm in search for my grandfather's manifest. His name was Leonardo Giuffre (changed to Jeffrey when he came to Toronto).

I think his ship was Cretin April 15th, 1921. He was only 14 when he came and he came by himself. He's from Termini Imerese, Sicily. I'm just in search for the names of my g-grandfather and g-grandmother...
Thanks,
David
