Maternal Grandfather

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Hi, from the message you sent me below, you are telling me I can get his birth certificate. How do I write to them. Could I do I in English or must I translate into Italian. Do they answer e-mails if I send them.

Hello Last,
I found him.
It was written by volounteers as Merra Vincenzo, see line 6

page 1

page 2

He came from San Giorgio La Montagna, now called San Giorgio del Sannio, province of Benevento.
You can find his birth act to the following address

Comune
Ufficio di Stato Civile
Piazza Municipio 1
82018 san Giorgio del Sannio (BN)
Italy

or to Archivio di Stato di Benevento

or rent San Giorgio del Sannio civil record microfilms to FHL (mormon church)
I hope it helps, bye Riccardo

Hi Last,

The letter to the comune should be in Italian. You can compose it and when have one of our Italian members translate it into Italian.

When you send the request, include a self addressed return envelope, a copy of your photo ID (recommend) and an international reply coupon (obtain from your local post office).

Hope this helps.

Last,
Looks like WWI Draft Card & 1930 Census are now correct.
Manifest for Vincenzo is correct.
Manifest for Concetta? Does it look OK?
Thanks for the update!

Last,

You should ask Trish which films are available for your families...she an expert on films! This will also help with your paternal grandparents.

See this post for a better understanding...

Hi, when you say the word films, do you mean I could view the information on line, or must I order information?

Here is the letter, I think or should I say I am getting old..

Comune
Ufficio di Stato Civile
Piazza Municipio 1

Italy

Hello, my name is Charles Parente, Jr. I am the grandson of Vincenzo Mirra. He came San Giorgio La Montagna now called San Diorgio del Sannia province of Benevento, Italy. He was born on August 28 1889. The Ellis Island web site shows he immigrated from Naples, Italy on April 16, 1913 on the ship Mendoza and arrived in New York on April 30, 1913. I am looking for confirmation that he did leave on that day and also on that ship. I would also like any other information you are able to locate. Such as birth, baptism, marriage, or any information on his parents of any additional relatives would be helpful.
You could send the information to Charles Parente, Jr. 500 Center Street, Duryea, PA 18642
U.S.A.
