Eligibility and LAW 379 - 2000 Veneto Region

Post by Krisgirardi »

Hi, everyone.

My maternal great grandfather was born in Vicenza province (Veneto). He emigrated to the US in 1905. My grandfather was born in NY in 1917, well before my great grandfather was naturalized in 1922. My mother and I would both like to apply for citizenship, but I have been seeing "VENETO REGION" included as part of the annexed territories on many websites... As far as I have been able to verify, Vicenza was not one of those annexed provinces of Veneto. My GGF was from Lusiana-Conco, Vicenza, Veneto. Does anyone have any knowledge or insight in regards to our eligibility?

Thank you. Stay safe!

The deadline to apply for Italian citizenship under the provisions of law 379/2000 expired on Feb 28th, 2016. However, the Veneto region was annexed to the Kingdom of Italy from Austria-Hungary in 1866 as a consequence of the Austro-Prussian war. Therefore it is not part of the former Austro-Hungarian territories annexed by Italy at the end of WWI, to which the law refers to.
