LUIGI, GIOVANNI & MARIA BASSANI - EMIGRATION 1948 TO CAN

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Jayzee:

There are several ships by that name but the only one that fits is the one I listed below. Question: Was the emigration to Canada or US (New York)? Canada has a strict policy about releasing the names on passenger lists that they consider too recent as opposed to US:

See: http://www.geocities.com/fcandido2001/s ... urnia.html

History of Ship:

Saturnia--Built 1927. 1932 transferred from Cosulich, 1940 interned at New York, 1942 chartered to Red Cross, 1943 Allied troopship, 1945 became US Hospital ship renamed Frances Y. Slanger, 1946 returned to owners, renamed Saturnia, 1965 scrapped. Some ports of Call for Saturnia 1948 (all are not listed):
New York, Gibraltar, Naples, Genoa, Alexandria, Piraeus, Palestine

Sorry that my pitch is off key. I guess I don't win those concert tickets!!!!! 8O

Seriously,

You need to find out if your relatives came through Canada or New York before you know which way to proceed.

I just signed up with this website and found this. It sounds like my father Luigi, aunt and uncle. They all came to Canada together in 1948. The ages are correct.
