Belcamino

Vince, it would be great if this manifest was easier to read.
It appears that a lot of the information wasn’t filled in, or
was written over since Elizabetta was a US Citizen…

It's great that we could find some records for you and your dad!
We'll see what we can do for your Belcamino side.
Unless Elizabetta had relatives who may have joined her in the US,
your best bet may be the Italian records that Peter suggested.

Question, have you checked Calvary cemetery for Nicola & Maria
Zangari?
Also, a list of Frank & Elizabeth's children may help us locate their
1910 & 1920 census.

Hello Valarie,

Let me preface this response with an overwhelming THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR EVERYTHING!!!! :D

Now, as for the children of Frank and Elizabeth, I know of my Nanu (Frank D. Zangari, b. 09/11/1915 d. 9/12/05), and I know of my uncle Dominick "Dom", my aunt Dolores "Dolly", my aunt Eleanora "Nora", my aunt Elizabeth "Betty", and my uncle Herbert...I am not sure, but I think there were also one or two more kids who did not live long...

Now here is another question that I have no answer to as of yet, perhaps you might be able to tell me...I have seen records of my great grandfather coming over here from Italy, but I have seen no records of my great grandmother coming over.

I have seen this trend many places, where the men's info is online, and readily available, but for some reason, there is little to no info on the women in my family...

Has anyone else ever encountered that kind of dilemma before?

Just curious...

Thanks again for all the help everyone...

Hey Vince,
You're very very welcome!
We're always happy to track down leads :D

You're right sometimes it's a challenge to track down our female Italian ancestors.
In Italy women keep their father's surnames.
In many cases they will travel under their maiden name, only adopting
their husband's surname when they arrive in the US (Elizabetta's 1912 manifest).
If they traveled as children, they may be listed under their mother's
maiden name (like Umberto on the 1912 manifest).
If they travel with their husband, they may only be listed by their first name, listed after their husband (Francesco & Elizabetta's 1906 manifest)
On census records we've even found women that went back to their maiden names if their husbands die...

The good news is - finding out what their maiden name was is much easier
in most cases than with other nationalities!

Question: Is there any way that anyone knows of to obtain obituaries from the last 8 years or so from the New England area? Or, if possible, as far back as the early 1920's?

I have found a lot of great family data from obituaries, but that was back when I lived in the New England area (Massachusetts). I now live in Arizona, and it is really difficult it seems to find the obituaries like I once had...perhaps they were taken off line or something, I don't know...

Any help, as always, is greatly appreciated...

OH! BY THE WAY!

I just wanted to let everyone know that I now have ruffly 210 people in my family tree, which is about 20 more than I had when I had started this thread about 3 or 4 days ago now, so I wanted to thank everyone for all their help once more.

With much respect and thanks,

Vince,
Fastest way I've found is a google news archive search, shame is when you find one there's usually a charge to view it.

Also:
$$ ObitFinder
$$ GenealogyBank

I've found obituary indexes at local historical societies & libraries online
They will usually mail full copies for a small fee

HOLY COW! YES! :D --does the happy dance-- :D

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH!!!

You must have posted this while I was posting my other reply...wow...you are so very awesome Valarie!

THANK YOU!!!

Now, with these additions to the family tree, that should bring me up to something like 222 people! WOW!!!

Just out of curiosity, how far back in everyone's histories have they been able to go? I mean, is it possible to go back 15 to 20 generations? I have now only gone back like 5 or 6 generations, but hope to go further...

How many people have others been able to accumulate into their family trees? Just wondering...

Thanks again for EVERYTHING!

With much respect and admiration,

Vince

Thanks again for the new leads, I will check those hyperlinks out and get back to you....

Ok, I now have a total of 221 people in my family tree, and I use the program Family Tree Maker Deluxe version 5...anyone have any idea how I can make the program print the complete report onto poster sized or larger piece of paper, like paper from a plotter or something?

I have access to a print shop, and they can basically take all most any file format and print it out, so if I can get this program to work with me, then I can get a copy of the complete Family Tree printed out for my dad...

Do I need to upgrade to a newer version of FTM?

Any help, as always, is greatly appreciated....

Thanks again,

Dear Vincent further to the above. Of the 23 listed in West Virginia 16 are one for Mary Zangari as part of some team and the remaining 7 or so are listed in small town newspapers...GA, PA, OK SC.

There are also 49 matches for Zangari from other collections, Mostly Naturalziations PA eastern, NY eastern, southern and NYC courts,NY city directories, Massachusetts and MA index, Pearl Harbor muster rolls, Missing Air Crew Reports WW11 and civil war pensions index. These can be found in the www.go.footnote.com under small townpapers which is a paying site but its FREE for 3 day trialperiod....go to it!! =Peter=

Hello Peter,

Let me preface this reply with a big THANK YOU for the links...they seem to be having server trouble right now, but I will look at them as soon as the problem is resolved...

As for the Zangari surname of PA, no...that is a different Zangari family, they are from Italy as well, but to the best of my knowledge, no, I am not related to them.

The Zangari families that I am related to are from MA, NH, and some in VT and ME...there are a number in CA and NV that I am also related to.

I had worked in the banking industry for a while, and throughout that time, I had found other Zangari's to whom I shared a name, and even day of birth, although not the exact year, but we were of no relation...

There are a few other Zangari families that I have found recently, one is a Spanish Zangari family! LMAO...the main guy is some sort of psychic or something, and I had to laugh about that one...

I am not sure about the family members in OH, or SC, but I do know that I have had some relatives live in GA, FL, and even AL...granted, the people who lived in those last three states were my father and brother, and even some nephews, but those are the only ones that I am aware of....

I check whitepages.com every so often, going in alphabetical order of states, looking for the last name of Zangari, and have found some relatives that way, and I just also found out from my father about a living relative who last he knew only spoke French, that would have information on my fraternal grandmother's side of the family...I am going to try to contact her today...her last name is Godbout, and she lives up in Laconia, NH...

Wish me luck on the family history hunt today...I go back to work next week, so this vacation is almost over for me...ah well...I will still be able to check in here every day for the next 4 or 5 days, so if anyone has any info that they have found, that would be awesome, and I will get back to everyone when I can get back online...

Take care, and thanks again everyone!

Vince

PS, just tried that footnote link again, this time taking the "go" out of the URL, and that brought me to the site...thanks again for that link, I will sign up for it as soon as I can!

Remember that Spanish psychic Zangari I just mentioned? Here are the links, the guy has a English (Brittish) first name and an Italian last name, but he is of Spanish decent! GO FIGURE! LOL!
