Marchetti-Iaccheri of Barga?

Post by klmarchetti »

I am looking for any information on my family from Barga, Italy. I wish I had a lot of details about them but this is what I know: My great-grandparents, Luigi (Louis?) Marchetti and Bianca Iaccheri, came to the states in or before 1900. My grandfather, Andrew Marchetti, was born in Virginia in 1901 and was given the key to Barga for his accomplishments, so I know they were originally from there.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Mormon church family history library nearest your home has the microfilm for barga covering all births, marriage and deaths from 1860-1910. Birng along the book Discovering Your Italian Ancestors by LynnNelson which is a companion book for the microfilms. The film costs about $5.00 and youcna find the library nearest your home at www.familysearch.org. =Peter=

Hi and Welcome to the Forum!
Sometimes US records (census, etc) can contain clues to locating your family’s town of origin in Italy.
Dates of immigration on the census can help locate ship manifests:
Ellis Island NY
Have you seen the 1910 or any other census records?
Thanks, Valarie

Valarie,

I can't blieve this! That is absolutely them! My grandfather was Andrew and his sister was Elda! I also believe the passport application was his, as it mentions he lived in Richmond, VA. I don't know why the birthday would be incorrect on the WWI card, though.

I really can't believe this - you are amazing! How can I find this information? Thank you so very much.

K :D ,
I'm so glad we may have found some records for you!

These were all on ancestry. com - a subscription site.
Most larger libraries offer free access to ancestry at the library.
If your library has a website it's pretty easy to check.

Also some libraries offer in-home access to HeritageQuest - a great
census database thru 1920.

You should be able to locate at least two ship manifests for Luigi -
the return trip he mentioned abt 1899 (perhaps to get married?)
and a return trip abt 1920-1921?

Bianca and her sister Virginia should be on ship manifests under their
maiden names (don't forget to check under 'J" also - it's often mistranscribed for 'I')
If Bianca came back with Luigi 1899-1901, she may be listed under his name.
